A flag devs can use to turn off AMD's profile when the game/engine will handle the implementation.
I am too lazy to find Ryan's post at B3D forums, but NGG is not, at all, intended to be touched by the devs.
Not even a complier flag.

It initially was though(Raja). AMD changed their stance 3 months later or so(Raja). Assuming Adrenalin includes all of these techniques, AMD's late change in approach is why it's part of the annual release rather than launch. They just couldn't get it done in time. It also explains why AMD released Enhanced Sync when they did instead of holding it for the annual update.

Eh, no.
The very concept implies devs will never touch the merged shader stages.

Literally the best people to to use the tools are the devs because they know exactly that is going to happen. I expect the merged shader stages will become a standard implementation at the API level at some point in the future.

Here is an early January PCper's article that was based on what AMD was telling everyone. Raja said all of this publicly too.

https://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graph...w-Redesigned-Memory-Architecture/Primitive-Sh

This new shader combines the functions of vertex and geometry shader and, as AMD told it to me, “with the right knowledge” you can discard game based primitives at an incredible rate. This right knowledge though is the crucial component – it is something that has to be coded for directly and isn’t something that AMD or Vega will be able to do behind the scenes. This primitive shader type could be implemented by developers by simply wrapping current vertex shader code that would speed up throughput (to that 2x rate) through recognition of the Vega 10 driver packages. Another way this could be utilized is with extensions to current APIs (Vulkan seems like an obvious choice) and the hope is that this kind of shader will be adopted and implemented officially by upcoming API revisions including the next DirectX. AMD views the primitive shader as the natural progression of the geometry engine and the end of standard vertex and geometry shaders. In the end, that will be the complication with this new feature (as well as others) – its benefit to consumers and game developers will be dependent on the integration and adoption rates from developers themselves.

Then here is Rys in August.

The driver takes care of it for you. Just render as normal.

I can't say the exact number, or they will kick my ass.
Sooner than you think.
Then I better hurry up and purchase my RX Vega Frontier Edition this week. If performance is going to jump up like this, that $699 price will be gone forever!!

It will be gone forever due to xmr miners anyway.

This will be a very feature centric release. So don't expect too much performance improvements.

Ok. What i am looking forward to is this ngg path enabling on vega and i dont care much for features. That said i must admit proper inbuild and easy performance monitoring and logging is something i could have used for 25 years. Its one of these features like synch and optimus that you wonder why it wasnt there for a start. Usually its nvidia doing the innovation on that kind of stuff. So hey it seems more customer focus is comming to amd.

The ui on the amd drivers is already 10 years in front of nv imo. Running a desktop 1050 now and while i often like old ui its like returning to the 6 series days. But hey performance is superior vs watt its just like navigating windows xp and office 2003. Lol.

As previously stated there are no fps gains in this driver, though AMD took the liberty of comparing this driver to last year's Relive edition.

So they are wrong by showing how much they improved over one year since the last major(feature update) release?

Nod for that. Today's Radeon driver UI is very similar to Ryzen Master. Looks modern and a lot of adjustable things.

Have installed new Adrenaline driver for about an hour. Overlay is good but more distractive than afterburner's. I still can't make AMD Link work. I imagine their little server is overcrowded by thousands of curious users right now.

edit: AMD Link is working now. It has something to do with Windows Firewall. It works well on Android device.
