I bought a 6750XT reference card from AMD direct to use as an interim GPU while I RMA my defective 6900XT to Asus. I would have copped a cheaper card but I need some reasonable amount of power as I use the system for work from home involving GPU heavy workloads.

I don't feel great about it, even at $550 MSRP. I wish it was priced at $500 instead. If I don't end up reselling it after I get a replacement 6900XT, I might just replace the 1080ti in my other system at home with it.

The overclocking prospects are very, very poor. "max the sliders and it runs stable because they didn't want to let it overclock enough to compete with the 6800" is not a great look.

OK this is funny. Apparently AMD lowered the MSRP between the initial press briefing and launch. The 6950 XT was meant to be $1299 it looks.

and it was $1299 for the reference card on amd.com for about 10 minutes right after launch at 8am central. 10 mins later it was $1099

Based on the TPU review, it looks like the 6950XT benefits the most from the clock headroom and bandwidth, and has even more room on top of that with overclocking.

The 6750XT does a poor job catching up to the 6800 is was presumably going to replace, covering only half the 12-15% gap that it needed to, and the 6650XT barely moves the needle at all but is also the same price as the 6600XT anyway.

I don't think anyone was really expecting much from this refresh anyway, and it delivered almost exactly that. Looks like everything below the N21 die was basically already maxed out and fully utilizing resources.

Most of the 6750XTs are still in stock at Newegg right now. That tells me these are too expensive and not worth the price. A good card would have sold out the instant they were available. AMD released an overpriced turd refresh.

Either it's priced poorly (both the 6700XT And the 6750XT), AMD simply manufactured a pile of them (both the 6700XT and 6750XT), demand is beginning to saturate at that pricepoint, or a combination of factors.

I doubt it's just that AMD priced it badly.

IMO I'll start considering a 6700XT at $350 and I'll shut up and buy no questions asked at $250. The pricing has always been dumb for a 250mm2 chip and I suspect the people that were willing to buy it for $480/$550 dollars were the ones willing to buy it for the $700/$800 it was going for at the height of the pandemic.

The "MSRP" buyers already have theirs. All us cheapskates are what's left.

The MSI board looks to be the most different, using a lot of solid state capacitors. Sapphire board seems more similar to the Gigabyte one, so maybe that's closer to the reference PCB layout.

Not sure the Gigabyte 6950XT is the same as the reference cards being sold on amd.com (when they're in stock, which they aren't at the moment).

However it looks like all the 6950XTs are lengthened with extra power connectors, along with two extra caps and an extra one of . . . uh . . . whatever R68 2149 is (sorry don't recognize it). This may interfere with some full cover blocks intended for the 6900XT.

The positions of GPU and RAM are almost identical between both cards. 6950XT has at least one extra VRM phase. That may also present an issue.

$350 would put it well below the 5700 XT which it replaces. $480 is higher than the 5700 XT, but not outrageously so. If GPU's truly go into a bear market, you may just get your wish of it being cheaper.

Based on the board layout from TPU's teardown, there are some ways that the Sapphire 6950X is close to the reference 6900X, but the VRM layout is . . . different. I'll let you pore over the pics to see for yourself. Gigabyte's VRM layout is closest to the reference 6900X, while Sapphire's has fewer caps near the PCIe power plugs (making it closer to reference 6900X in that respect).

I was referencing the launch price for the 5700 XT vs the launch price of the 6750 XT.

The 5700 XT had an MSRP of $399 for a reference card. The AIB cards were $420-480.

So the 6750 XT having an MSRP of $480 for the reference (which is a good three fan reference card, the 5700 XT reference was a blower), isn't really that out of line.

The psychology of the buyer.

I was just having a look at the TOP GPU sales of Newegg (link) when I show a $330 RTX3050 in number 5 position, a $440 RTX3060 at number 7 position and a $380 RTX3050 in number 9 position.

Then I searched newegg for RX6600 and RX6050XT prices and this is what I found,

XFX RX6600 = $330, same price as the RX3050 in number 5 position . According to TPU the RX6600 is 30% faster in 1080p gaming.

Gigabyte/Asrock RX6050XT = $400, cheaper than the RTX3060 in number 7 position. According to TPU the RX 6050XT is 26.5% faster in 1080p gaming and 25% faster at 1440p.
RX 6050XT is also faster in many RayTracing games at 1080p.


Ok I will have to say that I can understand why RTX3060 is selling at $440, but it is mind blogging to see that people buy the RTX3050 at $330 and especially at $380.
I mean wtf people, $380 for the 3050 when RX6600XT is 45% faster at the same price ??? You dont want to buy a Radeon fine, for 40 bucks more ($420) you can get the cheapest RTX3060 that is 35% faster vs the RTX3050.
Really there is zero reason I can thing off to make me choose or recommend the $380 RTX3050 over what is currently out there from both AMD and NVIDIA.

Do your homework people before you buy, dont just buy looking only at the name or price but read reviews , watch a few youtube reviews and also search for other hardware alternatives.

I had something similar happen just yesterday. The streamer was looking at upgrading, and was wanting to buy a 3060 for $600!! I told him to just get a 6600 instead, much faster and cheaper. And he just listed some BS reasons why he would never buy AMD. It was sad.

I get that from some of my friends also and its really hilarious/tragic. In the last twenty years there have only been very brief periods when nvidia or amd had a conclusively better product stack...generally amd has had comparable or slightly worse/better offerings in the same price range. Sometimes at a significant discount like you mentioned...and people just slurp down the marketing/hype.

Last round i wanted to go nvidia just for comparison but the price spread was too much.
