We have all been waiting to hear more about Polaris GPUs, so today I’m pleased to tell you that we finally have some confirmed information.
AMD Radeon R9 470 and R9 480 are based on Polaris architecture

Everyone (me included) was wondering if AMD is going to market Polaris 10 as R9 490 series. Should AMD decide to use Polaris 10 for 490 series, competitive performance to higher-end cards would be expected. Should AMD use P10 for 480 instead, we would expect good performance per dollar, competitive mid-range solution and R9 390 series replacement.

Well today I can finally tell you that we have confirmed through our independent sources that AMD is launching Radeon 470 series and 480 series in the next few weeks, and that Radeon 480 series are based on Polaris 10.

AMD has been very secret about Polaris GPUs to its partners. Company has only started sharing detailed information just few weeks ago.
AIBs won’t show Radeon R9 480 series at Computex

The lack of concrete information has definitely affected the production of custom Polaris boards. What’s interesting is that AMD has not even allowed its partners to show prototypes at Computex. It means that — at best — we can only expect presentations of new cooling solutions, but nothing that could be called officially named after Radeon 400 series, unless… AMD changes its mind.
Well that’s it for now. We have much more information to share, but we will try to confirm it before publishing another story about Polaris.

So AMD says they're launching Polaris10 at Computex and you insist there are MULTIPLE reasons why it won't show at Computex.

Nvidia says they're launching a premium cooler with the GTX 1080, and despite 0 evidence of that from reviewers, you're ok with that...

1 company you're taking their comments at face value.
The other, you're deciding to find every reason under the sun that they're released statements are lies/not true.

If they are launching in the next few weeks then why they can't show cards at Computex (not even prototypes)? Doesn't make any sense, unless we're talking about a paper launch.

Hopefully the naming (R9 480 Series) sets the performance expectations where they should be.

I like that they are going for midrange first, since that's what I'm in the market for. However, it doesn't sound like those cards will be available any time soon, if they won't even show it at Computex.

Indeed, another confirmation they're not showing at Computex, they are launching.

Good point, if they let AIBs show off Polaris cards at Computex it would distract from the AMD presentation since it won't happen right at "starting bell".

Vega 11 as 490 series, Vega 10 as Fury 400 series? (or whichever is bigger) Makes sense.

390 competed with 970, so does this mean full Polaris 10 will not compete with 1070? Not a confirmation, but I'd bet that it will be slower just from that. I'd love a surprise though.

tential, doesn't sound to me that "Polaris updates" means "Polaris launch."

Anyway, the evidence is overwhelming at this point that AMD will give out SKU details but that availability of Polaris 10 may not be for a while yet. Perhaps as long as the delta between Pascal announcement and availability if not a bigger gap.

If amd is not doing a launch party like Nvidia did for the 1070/1080 at computex I mean can we seriously just lode all respect for amd as a company?

If they don't give availability then this launch is coming close to fury levels of fail.

As I've said before, Nvidia launching the 1080 and having it on sale before p10 makes it hard for anyone to care. Who gets excited at seeing r9 380 level performance?

R9 480 should be faster than R9 380x. Anyway, I'm expecting that 480 brings roughly 390/390x performance at much better power consumption and lower price. That could be exciting for many.

Depending on the pricing and power consumption, probably every single OEM manufacturer out there.

I mean, I'm ignoring the idea that the 480 somehow doesn't come with more performance than a 380.

Exciting headline though? 1070 for Titan x performance is nicer headline than p10 for 390x performance....

2560 GCN core GPU with 1.5 GHz will not be on R9 390 level of performance. It will be on GTX 1080 levels.

Keep in mind that.

Yes, but that's not what Polaris 10 is likely to be. If AMD had a GTX 10 class part on its hand it would not brand it R9 480, it could get more money selling it as an R9 490.
