Viewsonic monitors: PF790 vs. PF815

Any opinions on if the larger size is worth it? Are there any other comparable 21" monitors (ie aperture grill, and perfectly flat) that I should consider?

regards
Mike

I have a PF790 and a friend of mine has a PF815...my monitor seems so small...

You should consider Sony monitor (I dont remember the part number).

If i had the money, I would take the PF815 over the PF790 without hesitation.

As LXi would say:

go with Samsung 1200NF.

i would second that (tho not much personal experience)

mostly KDS AV21TF, Smasung 1200NF, and Viewsonic PF815 are comparable in both performace and price.

sony is more high end and increased price may not be justified by increased performance. Samsung uses Diamondtron tube (same as much hyped/high priced Misubishi Monitors) and the other two use Trintron Tubes just like sony.

thats my view , But i am no expert and may be wrong. just my 2 cents.

I have been collecting which types of flat ap. grill are which:

Sony (Triniton FD) licences to KDS for use in the AV series, ADI G and F series, CTX Professional series, IBM P series, Artmedia FD Trinitron/A series, and Mag Graphics series.

The other is Mitsubishi (Diamondtron NF), which licences to the Viewsonic PF series, NEC Diamond Plus (and some Pros), Iiyana VisionMaster Pro series, Samsung SyncMaster NF series, Acer P series, Dell P series, and their own Diamondpro series.

I have the PF795, higher refresh then the PF790 to match my GeForce 2. Got it for same price as PF790 at onvia.

I saw them side by side and I could see the difference. Can't comment on the PF815.

Also there is a Sony G500 on sale in FS/FT forum. its also 21" monitor and support includes 1600*1200@85MHz(max is more than that). and .24AG DP.

so specs are pretty good.

Never heard of Artmedia, as Sony and IBM stated there should be only 6 manufacturers using FD Trinitron(Sony, IBM, KDS, CTX, ADI, Mag), well, that makes it #7.

Also, I didnt know Dell is using DiamondTron NF, they've always used Sony FD Trinitron.

If you are considering the Viewsonic PF790, check out the new PF795. Seems sharper to me. Also, if you can find it, the PS790 is sweet, although no flat screen (but much sharper on text). Viewsonic blows any other monitor manufacturer away in terms of customer service. Along with HP, they are the best in the industry.

Hmm i dunno about that. I have heard RAVE reviews about KDS warranty program. It's called
KARES and the reason why they are so great is because they ship out replacement monitors very quickly to users with little or no hassle/trouble/questions at all.

I came across this page when looking at big monitors . These guys did some nice comparison reviews of the monitors mentioned in this post. I'm trying to scrape up the dough for the pf815--looks like you can probably get it for around $900 on the web.

edit

Look at the "Top Ten Monitors on Display" and "16 Sweet Monitors" for the comparison reviews.
