jndoggett --

I am using the VG150 on one of my computers. The image and text is very sharp and noticeable better than my old NEC XP17 monitor.

For all of you getting one, besure to read the manual and use the autosync command to get the best picture. Out of the box, the picture was fuzzy in certain parts of the screen. After reading the manual, I learned that I was suppose to use autosync. After the autosync, the picture became awesome. Net, it would have been a deal for me at $500, and I was extremely happy to get it for $375 two months ago. So the prices now are even better.

<< do i need some sort of adaptor for my video card to get this working? >>

No, a standard video card should be fine with this monitor.

Just a heads up...

These LCDs only have 60Hz refresh. "1,024 x 768 at 60Hz refresh rate" taken directly from viewsonic's web site. Most newer LCDs are 75-85Hz refresh. This makes a big difference when viewing things in motion on an LCD (video, games, etc.).

yOur talking about responce times. which are like 30ms for this LCD.

They should be much lower in order to play games. like 20 or under. But almost no new monitors have this yet.

the 60hz is the refresh rate of the scanning. nothing to do with bleeding that occurs when fast 3d games are played.

This is a great LCD for websurfing and working long hours.

NOT FOR FAST FPS GAMES.

the vertical refresh for VG150 is 60-70MHZ
the vertical refresh for VE150 is 60-75MHZ

Go to the comparison popup

friend bought a VE150 during CompUSA special.
We hooked it up to a bare bones Abit SA6-R board with no AGP card (used onboard video and drivers on CD)
Fired right up @ default 60, loaded .inf file, reset it to 75 VF looked great.

Have you tried gently pushing on the screen where the dead pixel is present? I've read where this activity could "reset" the pixel and sometimes get it working once again. Good luck!!

It looks like the VG150 and the Planar 15" cost about the same net price. Is the Viewsonic significantly better? I'd like to get a black monitor to match my computer desk.

i have this: the 150
its great --> pay no attn to the refresh rate, yes there is a slightly noticeable blur when playing fast fps games, but make no mistake i'm a high fragger in quake3 and dod halflife, i play all the time, its not a problem at all with games

top notch lcd for the price - jump on it!

Unlike with CRTs, refresh rate is an irrelevant metric for LCD panels because the pixels are either on or off; they do not need to be "refreshed" by an electron gun to keep them illuminated as with a CRT. A 60Hz refresh rate is perfectly adequate for watching full motion NTSC video.

I've got a VG175 running at 60Hz off of a GeForce 2MX video card and have no problem with display flicker or watching full motion video. Display quality is sharp, with no bleeding or distorion when run at full resolution (1280x1024 for the VG175) provided that the "auto calibrate" function of the LCD panel has been run. Assuming that the VG150 uses the same display and calibration circuitry, the lack of a digital interface should not be problematic.

With regard to FPS games, the VG175 does exhibit some very minimal ghosting under some circumstances, but I have not found it to be objectionable or problematic for the casual gaming I do.

Hope this info helps!

Dead pixel is kinda in the middle of the screen, about two inches up and to the left. Kinda distracting, but I dunno that I can do anything about it.
