I am thinking about purchasing the P95f+ and was wandering others thoughts on it. Any other recomendations for 19" CRTs would be apperciated as well ... as long as the price range is within or not higher than the P95f+ which is about 266 - 300 (?)

Will be used for gaming and will be paired up later with a 9700 pro

Thanks

You'll be very happy with this monitor. Great color, very sharp and high refresh rates (for the price).

Well, let me give you the short verison of what I think about the P95F+B: Sucks beyond all belief and because of it, I will never buy or reccommend another Viewsonic product until the day I die.

The longer version for a bit of clarification: I noticed that my brand new P95F+B was a bit blurriy in the lower section of the screen. I call Viewsonic. They get it "repaired" twice and replaced with a new unit once all because they all have this same problem. Getting a bit frustrated after dealing with all this for several months, I go back to my display settings and start trying to see if I can make it better. I changed my refresh from 100Hz (1280x960) down to 75Hz and *BOOM* my monitor looks perfect! Well, except for the flickering as it is at 75Hz... I call Viewsonic and tell them what the problem with thir POS monitor actually is so they replace it yet again. Same problem... I am pretty pissed at this point. I had bought it in August of last year and this was about Christmas time when I got that last P95F+B.

So, I wrote them a huge email detailing all the crap I had been through and just how unhappy I was with their monitor and their company in general. Two months later, I get a call from Viewsonic. I talk to the tech support guy and he expalins to me that the P95F+B has a "soft focus" so it isn't that great for spreadsheets, CAD applications, or text based apps. He didn't quite know what to say when I told him that on their website it says that the Professional series is perfectly suited for all those applications... So, after some very lame back-pedalling and stammering, he eventually said that another P95F+B would be pointless at this time. So he offered me a 21" G810 as a straight replacement. I didn't really care as I had ordered a couple Dell 1800FP 18" LCDs so I went for it. My roommate really likes it and is buying it off of me so I al least will recoup the cost of the P95F+B.

Now, I don't know exactly what is going on at Viewsonic. These monitors have recieved so many amazing reviews and yet, here I am, I went through 3 of them, all with the same problem. Just so you know, I have tested software and hardware for a living, so I know how to eliminate the possibilities that it is soemthing on my end. I had tested the first monitor on four different video cards, in two different computers, in various locations throughout my house, and on many different electrical circuits.

I have a strong feeling that Viewsonic is cutting costs somewhere on these monitors now. Whether it be in labour or parts, I don't know, but it would seem to be about the only logical explanation to the situation.

When it wasn't blurry though, it was a beautiful monitor. But, I didn't pay that extra money to get a monitor that could only do 75Hz and still look good. if you do choose to buy it, make sure that the store you get it from has a very good return policy or else you may be stuck dealing directly with Viewsonic, which wasn't actually bad, it was just the down time of not having the 19" that really sucked. thankfully I still had a 17" kicking around to use in the meantime.

yeah i have heard about some blurring in the highter resolutions, and it bothers me to some degree. Though some
said it could be fixed with a high quality cord. These where overall blurryness (sp?) as opposed to your one
section of your screen though

High quality cord? Isn't the cord non-detachable? Or do you mean the power cord?

I noticed some patchy blurriness as well when I first set mine up. It seems to have all but disappeared now. For gaming this monitor is great. Very bright, very rich color.

I'm running the Optiquest Q95, which I believe is the same tube, very similar at least.

I love it.

It's not perfect-flat, but the picture is good and consistent. For a low-cost 19" option, it's done me just fine for the ~two years I've had it.
