Does anybody know if these are backwards compatible with usb 1.1? I'm not too familiar with these drives but I'm thinking of getting one.

I'm fairly sure nearly most if not all usb flash drives are backwards compatible with usb 1.1. Don't quote me on that though. There are still tons of usb 1.1 stuff out there and i'd think they'd really be shooting themselves in the foot to make it only usb 2.0 compatible.

For those that may not need a 256 meg drive, they also have a 128 meg flash drive for $17.06 after rebate.... Link

I am pretty sure you are correct regarding the compatibility of the USB flash drives....major brands are backwards compatible.
