Just a quick blurb on the Viking 1 gig: You can read my full review in a similar thread on this card. I returned it after only a few days. Started giving me weird errors, and was extremely slow in writes. I ended up getting the 45x Transcend 1 gig from Newegg for about $60 more (and no rebate). Yes, a lot more money, but it really was worth it.

Same here about the Viking cards. After reading the reviews I decided against buying that brand of CF cards. I'll stick with SanDisk even though it's a little slower than Viking CF.

The speed of the card, not the manufacturer, determines how slow or fast it is. Both sandisk and viking make slower and faster cards. You need to look at the specs for the transfer rate.

I have not buought a Viking card because of all the negative reviews, but they keep getting cheaper and cheaper. I may end up picking up the 512 card.
