I love sports but there's no way in hell I want my tax dollars paying for a stadium, period.

Our Democrat governor has been pushing this. How does that make you feel?

Worse is he outright rejected a republican plan to extend a state loan to the team to pay for it. Couldnt possibly allow the vikings to finance the stadium. Have to get the state to pay for half of it outright. Democrats, showing their corporatist side again. That cross eyed buffoon will hopefully be a one term gov.

The Bucs did the same in Tampa. This is the new standard.

I did read a recent article in WSJ about the Coyotes arena deal in Arizona.

Glendale's Public Hockey Project

The Cash-Strapped Arizona City Loses $12.9 Million a Year Supporting the NHL's Coyotes

What's funny is that they would've probably been fine staying in Quebec instead of moving there.

They didn't come from Quebec, they came from Winnipeg who got their team back already. The teams that left Quebec and Winnipeg did so for a reason, they were losing money. Phoenix stays in Phoenix because the NHL maintains the team to keep it there, for some reason

why should they when they can get the taxpayers to foot the bill?

Exactly. I'm not a huge sports fan myself, but I can understand the attraction. What I don't get, AT ALL, is how absolutely rabid people can be with team loyalty.

Here's a clue, folks: the team does not love you. Does not love the city they're in. They, like any other business, exist to generate dollars for their owners. Your derived entertainment from the sport is ONLY important so far as it makes you buy tickets and put out added taxes to keep a team in your city.

The irony is that California, the most "communist" state in the Union, will have two new stadiums in roughly the last decade that will take very little tax dollars.

Phokus won't be back. The fact that a Democrat was promoting this government transfer of wealth to the 1% and a Republican is quoted in the article as being against it doesn't jive with his ignorant opinion.

The Vikings aren't the only team in the NFL contemplating moving to LA and they probably aren't the first one in line for LA to embrace them with loving arms. The whole moving to LA thing is a power play by the Wilf's but if they can make it into a reality, great!

I don't think the NFL will even let a team move to Los Angeles any time soon. Los Angeles is the boogeyman used to scam billions of dollars from taxpayers... "Build the team a new stadium or we're moving to LA". That is too powerful of a threat for the NFL to give up.

Politicians are fucking stupid. My state rep replied back it will create jobs. What a fucking idiot. The losers who went to the state capital cant be more cliche. 40-50 something overweight white males clinging onto a sports franchise like it is their last breath. It was sad display looking at the pictures of these losers for the past 2 weeks in the paper.

Those guys probably cant afford a ticket in the new stadium anyways.

the only studies that have ever shown stadium projects create jobs are the ones that look at an area not much larger than the vacant lot the stadium was put up on. studies that look at a region as a whole show that regional economic activity is depressed by the stadium.
