The trade was stupid. The Magic got rid of Alston and Lee, two solid contributors, for Carter. Vince Carter is done, stick a fork in him. When he was in his prime, he was the best slasher in the game. But he could never shoot, never played defense, and wasn't a solid rebounder or passer. Now? He still can't shoot, doesn't play defense, and he can't get to the hole nearly as well. Oh, and he has to jack up 25 shots a game to be effective.
You're going to add that to a team that has Howard whining about not enough touches, Lewis jacking up a 3 every other time down the court, and Jameer Nelson- who doesn't exactly light it up from a passing standpoint? You're going to practically guarantee that you lose Turkoglu, a good 6-10 point-forward that can play defense and rebound, was the only player who wanted to take shots at crunch time in the playoffs, and was the only guy that could create a shot for someone else.
There's a reason that guys like Vince Carter and Allen Iverson make pretty much every team they go to worse...
Get some facts straight... 4 times in the 80 games in the 2008/2009 season has he shot 25 times or more, 5 times in the previous season. For the 08/09 season he average 16.8 shot attempts per game. Go look it up on espn.com
You have to be able to shoot somewhat if you have average 23.5 points a game and not average more than 7.6 free throw attempts per game that year being 2005/2006.
Who the hell knows if Orlando is going to lose Hedo? Could they yea but guess what...
Both Hedo and Vince:
Take ill-advised shots both 2s and 3s.. Which could be off-balance, early in the shot clock, could be heat checks and don't get the rest of the guys involved. Anyone who watches either player consistently will see that. Did Hedo make more 4th quarter baskets it certainly looks like it to me. Who knows if he will be as clutch? He may be or he may not be.
But you know what Orlando gets a happy motivated Vince Carter... can he put the 27.5 ppg on 46% fg 42.5% on 3s with 5.9 reb and 4.7 assists in 57 games like in the 2004/2005 season? No way with the amount of scorers on Orlando but he may be able to shoot like he did though....
Clearly Orlando is going for it now, they overpaid to get Lewis who made 17.2 million in 08/09. He had to overpaid to get someone
He will make
18.876 million in 09/10
20.5 million in 10/11
22.1 million in 11/12
23.79 million in 12/13
Clearly the Nets are trying to relieve salary cap space and hope they get someone in the summer of 2010. Who knows if that will happen, they could end up with no one.
Courtney Lee is a young good player lets see how he turns out without all the help around him.
Alston, he is a little whiner just go play or maybe he should go back to playing for AND1
Edit
The only way imho for Orlando to be better than the Cavs would be to retain Hedo.
