I don't believe most 'progressives' don't believe racism, xenophobia etc exists in EVERYONE including themselves and can recognize it.
The difference is when oppression pervades every thought and how your react to every situation, its hardly surprising there is lash out at times.
I'm much more forgiving of that than the systemic systems that perpetuates the cycle making our society lesser on scale than it should be.
