viper 770U video card and xp drivers

I got a viper 770U 32 meg video card gave to me for my sons computer. Does windows xp load the drivers for it? I have not been able to find any xp drivers for it on the web.
Also will there be much gaming improvement with this card over his voodoo 3 3000, 16 meg card?

The Viper 770U is listed as "compatible, driver included" with Windows 2000 in the HCL. There's no mention of compatibility with XP, but I'd wager that the OS will indeed load a driver for it. As far as gaming performance versus a Voodoo3 3000, I have no idea.

I used to be the proud owner of a Viper 770 (non ultra). I still have a V3 2000 AGP. I used both on a similar machine(it was a K6-2 450) and the numbers were pretty close for me. I have no doubt it was the slow processor as when I put the V770 in my 700 Athlon....my first thought was that it was FLYING. The V770 Ultra should offer slightly better performance than mine as it was clocked higher. Anyways, the main benefit of the 770 over the V3 is the ability to use 32-bit color. The V3 is limited to 16-bit but the V770 can do both. You might check Nvidia's site. The detonator drivers should support the V770(or at least they USED to). If that doesn't work, go to reactorcritical and check their downloads page. I used to use the 2.08 Dets when I had the card and they worked great. Just check around as there are sure to be some drivers for it. The drivers XP uses might still be the best bet but I'll leave the link to reactorcritical down below so you can check it out if you want. Good luck with the card. I felt like it was a VERY solid card and it offered me very good performance. Don't expect to play the latest and greatest games on it(such as UT2k3) but older games such as Half-Life, UT, Quake 3, and others will play fine as long as you have a processor fast enough to push the V770. Both cards actually performed about the same, with the 770Ultra pulling ahead a little..The main benefit you will see by going with the Ultra card is that it supports 32bit texturing and the Voodoo only supported 16 bit. Also, as a side benefit, you can still download up to date drivers for win9x/2k/XP from Nvidia.com. Can't really do that with the Voodoo as 3DFX (rest in peace) went kaput.
