Space Shuttle pilot?
What about fixing the system? Unless he lived in virginia I doubt he could do very much. If the OP hires a lawyer and takes it against virginia etc, he may very well be fixing the system.Originally posted by: theplaidfad

Looks like I found my new champion for arguing the opposite.
Don't get me started on speeding as a "crime"...
This is a new level of Absurdity. I have never heard of anything like this. Nothing. This is the same offense as a fucking DWI. Driving while intoxicated. The same fucking thing as Driving with Traffic but a little over the speed limit.
I'm sorry, but you're basically saying it's okay to ignore pr disagree the laws you find stupid. This varies different from person to person. There are people out there that think it's okay to go over the speed limit, and there are even people who think it's okay to DWI... it's your life, you decide right?
Fine, your life, ignore the laws you think dumb then... but don't expect not to see replies like mine when you rant about getting pounded in the arse by the system we all live in.
By that logic, people deserved the beatings the got for standing up to Jim Crow laws.
Oh, so right! You fix the system then, Mr. elite AT lifer.
And by your comparison, you're comparing the standing up to the Jim Crow laws to speeding?... Pfft.

So's point or perhaps my understanding of it: laws will often be there and you will sometimes get caught, however that in no way makes it a fair or just law.
You have represented your view very simply: You broke the law and you deserve to get punished.
By that same view the Jim Crow laws were alright because they were laws after all. By making an argument based on the fact that the law exists you are in fact supporting the law itself. If your stating that not all laws are correct and that the only valid option is to actually change the law your accepting that the institution of law itself is always valid and looking back at history I've gotta say that you're pretty wrong. And look back at what you wrote : In response to his reply comparing speeding to a DWI you basically say they are the same thing; same choice right? DWI lawbreaking=Speeding lawbreaking Jim Crow laws!=Speeding law. Hypocrisy? Check
Now personally, if you break the laws and get caught, well... sucks for you: Do what you want, don't get caught.
Now I'd be fine with it if you were just a normal asshole: "Haha, you're a dumbass who got caught." The problem is that your also saying, "If you're just like me you wouldn't ever get caught blah blah I'm superior to you." Pretentious asshole's I have a problem with especially because you argued that going above the speed limit is always wrong, which it is not. The flow of traffic does apply. And by stating such you show your own heavy bias: 1 guy gets a speeding ticket on a forum which thousands of people view each day and from that anecdote you somehow prove your point. :disgust:

I JUST got that mess off my license and am now enjoying much lower insurance premiums (THANK GOD!). The only good thing to come out of it is that I rarely do more than 5-7 MPH over nowadays.

About how long did that take? I don't have the best record the way it is but I don't think I have any points on it.

I'm sorry, from your post, I just read "blah blah blah"
So much for coherance.
Never at any point did I claim to be superior to ANYONE, show me where I did? Get over yourself and your over-thought explanation to mine, and others post. The funny thing is you have no idea which previos topic I'm even referencing, yet "1 guy gets a speeding ticket on a forum which thousands of people view each day and from that anecdote you somehow prove your point. :disgust:" and you think you have an expert response to me? Put your nose somewhere more useful where people might understand your useless, factless babble.
EDIT: I'm done with this topic, it's pointless trying to explain to apparent idiots that when you touch a fire, you get burnt. That's what's REALLY wrong with this country.... over-sensitive babies.

When a fine is created for the purpose of raising revenue, I'd argue that it is excessive. These fines extend far further than protecting the public's safety.

Same thing happened to my friend, 85 in a 65, got it reduced to speeding and a ~$100 fine.

This has to border on violating the Eighth Amendment--excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.
"The purpose of the civil remedial fees imposed in this section is to generate revenue," the new law states. (Virginia Code 46.2-206.1)
When a fine is created for the purpose of raising revenue, I'd argue that it is excessive. These fines extend far further than protecting the public's safety.

Really? Just how stupid would a person have to be to get nailed on it? Just how stupid would a person have to be to be nailed on it a 2nd time after learning how strict it was the first time? Doesn't a person that's learned not to be a dumbass protect the public safety? OP was a dumbass and will hopefully learn to at least not be a dumbass in Virginia even if he's a dumbass everywhere else.

uh, going over the speed limit is not being a dumb-ass, actually, I'd say at LEAST 90% of all drivers do it. So GTFO.
