I use AVG free edition. For a while now while just surfing the net(doesnt have to be XXX) like one time I looked some lyrics up then my monitor turned off while the pc remains on. Was looking for hints at gamewinners.com(which seems legit enuff site;has wealth of codes/tips) monitor turned off. Most of the time I can hit ENTER and it comes back on ok...but sometimes the screen is garbled then I restart to solve it.
The thing is, usually after one of those shutoffs I then scan with AVG and it finds a virus...usually the same one too. Trojan Horse Sec.Thought.E. appears as a .exe in windows\temporary internet files\content.ie5\. I then leave it in quarantine because AVG NEVER(atleast its been long time) is able to heal a virus. I also use housecall and panda online...panda just recently found UNIV (guess thats the right variant;just says UNIV) and W32/Gibe.C.worm(couldnt bring up the C variant just then). One of those 2 or maybe another I forgot supposedly is able to disable your AV I think to allow others in... Panda renamed those 2 and I deleted them. edit: just noticed last time AVG found sec.thought.e, it could not open 3 windows\temp\acr(insert 4 numbers or letters here).tmp...said could not open;not checked..hmmmm
Anyway I go to symantec, trendmicro, panda or wherever and read up on them..if I find removal tools I use them...read the reg entries they apply, look for never see a sign.
Should I unquarantine the ones AVG found and del them myself? Has AVG been compromised forever? Well I do use those online ones...does my Nexland router maybe make it hard to find them or del them? Ya think its IE I should get rid of? My monitor has a setting that shuts off during viri invasions?
