I'm running Windows 2K Pro in my office and when I print digital pictures from Image Expert 2000, I get the error message that "Virtual Memory Too Low". I tried going to Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance Options > Change Button and increase the number. Here are the following information I've got right now:

Paging file size for Selected Drive (C: drive)
Space available: 15021MB
Initial size: 384
Maximum size: 768

Total paging file size for all drives
Minimum allowed: 2MB
Recommended: 382MB
Currently allocated: 409MB

Registry size
Current registry size: 20MB
Maximum registry size (MB): 76

This "error message" only occurs when I print from the software Image Expert 2000. The rest of applications like Word, Excel, Vision Point, are all fine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! (ignore my signature, that is my home computer info.)

Computer I'm running (work)...
Windows 2000 + SP2
1600MHz, Pentium 4
261, 136 kb RAM

I would recommend:
Initial size: 768
Maximum size: 768

You are _using_ 409MB swap??? WOW!!! Personally, I would look at upgrading your RAM from 256MB to 512MB, if you can afford the (about $80)... you'll be much happier with the performance.

thanx, slackware but unfortunately, my printing isn't 100%.

I'm using an HP Deskjet 970Cse and also the Officejet g55.
They still could not print 100% but could only print between 60-70%.

Anymore suggestions???

I assume you mean that printing stops at 60-70%.

Do you get any error messages in Event Log? Have you tried re-installing the printer drivers? Any more details?

slackware, sorry for the confusion. What I meant by 60-70% is how the printing
is being done. Like for example, I've got a picture to print and a 100% means that it
printed exactly from the screen, it didn't stop printing, and it was neat. What I meant was
for example, I've got a person which is full figured head to toe and it'll only just print from
head to the waist or to the knees, not head to toe (which is 100%). Does this make sense?

There wasn't any error log message nor re-installing the printer driver works. It is the "Virtual
Memory Too Low" error message that keeps popping up at times.

Ok, this is starting to make sense....

My guess (never used your software) is that your software program is trying to render full page before it sends it to your printer (this is what Laser printers do).

You _may_ be able to solve this by increasing your paging file, changing memory settings within the program, or you may just have to lower your printing quality via the software.

Let me know how that helps or doesn't help.

...So how do I:

1.) increase the paging file;
2.) change memory settings within the program?

And do you think upgrading to 512mb would help?

I'm sorta like a novice user so a step-by-step process would be cool. Thanks, slackware. I appreciated.
Ooh and I probably won't respond soon cuz I work on Fridays only.

Now I'll just have to admit my weakness here.... I don't run Windows 2000. If I was sitting in front of it, I could do it in a couple minutes, but to remember step by step off the top of my head is just too much for me.. lol

Again, never used that programs, but first step is to look for a menu item that says "options" or "preferences" in the program. Or maybe it'll describe how to do it in it's help files?

Anytime you are using 480MB of swap, I can only conclude that it will be much faster having more RAM.

In your first post you described how to change your paging file...

I would recommend:
Initial size: 768
Maximum size: 768

Setting initial and maximum the same size is a faster and helps to reduce fragmentation. Also make sure that your paging file is on your fastest drive, or if you have two fast drives, split the sizes equally between the two.

Do you mean the OS (as in paging file), actual RAM or the application?

OS: I would think 768MB _should_ work out for you fine
actual RAM: with how "relatively" cheap RAM is, go for an additional 256MB, if you can't afford that, pic up 128MB.

Application: You'll have to play with those settings until you find what works best for you. Do they have tech support? Maybe you could call them Monday and ask what _they_ suggest.

The best way to improve swap file ( Virtual Memory ) usage on systems with more than
64Meg RAM is this:

DON'T set any min/max parameters . Let Windows handle it!
Put this entry in the system.ini file under [386enh] .
ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1
Check on your swap file occasionally; if you haven't been playing
games or running intensive apps, the swap file often will be 0 (zero).

All of the below information is for win9.x/me, but he is running Windows 2000

Why? I have already explained the advantages of a static Page File. Paging to a dynamic Page File can become VERY slow, especially over time as the disk becomes fragmented more and more.

Very good thing to do on Win9.x/ME.

Alrite so I went into C:\WINNT and opened up the file system.ini but i'm
not too sure what to do. Here's what it looks like:

; for 16-bit app support

[drivers]
wave=mmdrv.dll
timer=timer.drv

[mci]
[driver32]
[386enh]
woafont=dosapp.FON
EGA80WOA.FON=EGA80WOA.FON
EGA40WOA.FON=EGA40WOA.FON
CGA80WOA.FON=CGA80WOA.FON
CGA40WOA.FON=CGA40WOA.FON

.... What to do? What to do? What to do?

alrite *sigh*... so... I haven't yet upgrade the ram. I figured I might as well try other softwares and if that fails
as well, I'd upgrade my computer. In the meantime... I'd like a software where I can print out picture index, like the one
I have been having problems, Image Expert 2000. Any softwares out there? I've wrote to tech guys in Image Expert
regarding my problems... yet I haven't received their response. Thanks in advance!

Windows 2000-Based Computer
Click Start , point to Settings , click Control Panel , and then double-click System .

Click the Advanced tab, click Performance Options , click Change , set the "Initial Size" and the "Maximum Size" values for the paging file to 0 (zero), and then restart your computer.

Click Start , point to Settings , click Control Panel , and then double-click System .

Click the Advanced tab, click Performance Options , click Change , reset the "Initial Size" and the "Maximum Size" values to the recommended values for Windows 2000, and then restart your computer.

After you configure the paging file to an appropriate size, the temporary paging file is deleted and virtual memory errors no longer occur.

To work around this issue, create enough free disk space to accommodate the size of the temporary paging file.
