Virus problem

Alright, I grabbed the hard drive from my girlfriend's sister's son's PC because she said it was screwed and her nephew said it couldn't be fixed. I know it can. Its just viruses and a boot sector error.
I can fix the boot sector error with the Win2k Pro CD without a Problem.
But i came across this file while scanning with AVG:

f:\documents and settings\default user\my documents\??sks\cmd.exe

I tried to navigate there via Windows Explorer but i cannot acces ??sks folder. Is there any way to delete this virus? I was thinking maybe something during Bootup maybe. I also tried to get to it via my clean cmd.exe (Dos) but that failed too.

Assuming you've done a complete virus scan with a decent quality AV & its still there, I would give serious thought to just doing a full format of the drive as well a a zero-fill & starting fresh because its very possible there are root-kits on it that cannot be removed.

Id rather not formatt the drive as they have stuff on there I dont want to backup and possibly become infected during a backup.

and its a Dell and I dont want to search for drivers for it

Have you tried booting up in safe mode first and running a full scan using your AV? I did that once and it worked. Look at the online information about that virus. There could be information on how to remove it.

If you can get ahold of the service tag for the machine that the drive came out of finding the drivers should be no big deal ... backing up the data is going to be a problem if you want to garantee that you don't potentially infect an existing Windows install.
