Visa: Black

Just got "invited" to get a Visa: Black card which supposedly comes with all these benefits that they really didn't get into

appartenly 1% of the population is invited and comes with a $495/year fee


Should I care? What does this card do for me besides no credit limit?

I've received a couple invites from them that promptly go in the trash upon seeing the $495/annual fee. My assumption is that this is Visa's attempt to make us feel like snobs by rivaling the AmEx Black card, and it exists solely for the self-gratification of believing that you're special.

Cards went full circle from shinier and shinier to just black. Next will be graphite followed by primer grey then UPS brown.

My brother has had an AmEx black for a little over a year now. When we hung out last December in DC, he had their concierge service email him a list of cool stuff to do that he would pull up on his blackberry. He also had them get him tickets to a hockey game and book us a reservation at a restaurant. He's been able to stay in the red carpet clubs when he flies, and he's accumulated enough rewards points for a free flight.

I'd say it might be worth looking into a bit more unless you don't do much right now with your current credit cards.

AmEx Black is far different (better/more exclusive) than Visa Black.

Not a problem, that card will offer 5% cash back when you ship with UPS.

Agreed. This was my original thought but wanted to see if anyone even knew about what "benefits" i'm supposed to be offered except "ooh it's black"

I got the same thing in the mail yesterday... my wife claims it's a big deal, but it's no big deal to me when I have to shell out that much cashola just to be a member. I don't care if I get a free hooker for every time I swipe it.

Scissors and a trash can did me the favor.

It has some pretty good benefits, a lot like the AMEX Black.

Read the benefits explanation on there. Concierge, Entertainment, travel assistance, business services.

Plus it has luxury rewards, so if you spend enough to warrant having a high end card, the rewards pay back the fee.

If you travel a lot and want the convenience, it'd probably be worth it. A lot of the benefits are kind of moot if you know how to use travel sites on the Internet. A standard American Express card does the double warranty feature too.

One of my friends/roommates got one in the mail, but he was in Japan at the time on vacation. Me and the other roommates were tempted to open it to see if it was the special Amex one or an imitation. Joke is on them, he hasn't had a job since January and was about to shortsale his house. It turned out to be this visa black one. Can't be that exclusive unless it was just completely random.

Damn you guys are idiots sometimes. I don't even have the card but am capable of reading for 60 seconds to discern the benefits and drawbacks of it...
