How long does it ususally take for the rebate status to show up on their site after you send them in? It's been at least 15 days now since I've sent in that $70 rebate but I still don't see any status for this on the staples website. Should I be worried?

So has anyone checked the status of their rebate and that it shows that it's being processed? It's been two weeks since I've sent it in and it's still coming up as not found.

A couple of questions about this scanner rebate.. First of all, I assume that we peel off a portion of the sticker near the handle for rebate submission? For those of you that have sent in their rebates for this scanner already and got approved, how much of the sticker did you include for the rebate submission? The entire thing or just the part that has the UPC code?

Also, I don't think I'm going to keep this scanner because I have one that is just fine. Since I'm thinking about selling it, how would you ship this thing? I'd hate to ship it the way it was shipped to me. It's not in that bad of condition now, but I can see it arriving somewhere really thrashed. Would you try to double box it or just ship it the way that Staples shipped to us?

TIA.. The rebate question is really important for me because I'd love to get this in the mail by tomorrow before the post office closes at noon.

Sal, all that's required is the upc code but it's easiest if you just cut the whole thing off.

I still like to know how long does it typicially take them to post the status of my rebate on their site? It's been two weeks since I've sent it in now.

Thanks Carmann.. I would like to keep most of the sticker in tact in case of warrantee issues because it has the serial number on it and everything. What I usually do with adhesive UPC's is heat them up with a hair dryer and then peel them off. In this case, I would peel off just enough for the UPC and then cut that off with an exacto or scissors.

What is everyone else doing? Sending in the entire sticker or just the portion with the UPC code?

I guess I just wanted to know if someone got theirs approved by just sending in the little section that has the UPC code.

BTW.. I only received a packing slip with my scanner, so I called Staples rebate center and they said that they will accept a copy of the packing slip for rebate submission. I wrote a little note on it saying that I had called and that the person with whom I spoke with said that it was ok, just to be sure..

Thanks again,

Sal

Greatwolf,

Rebate houses are notorious for not processing your claims as they come in. Generally, they claim they have a large backlog of claims to deal with. Parago, Inc. (company processing Staples Rebates) isn't that bad.

TCA Rebates (who processes CompUSA rebates) is much worse. I wouldn't really worry about it yet. I (and many others) are still waiting on a bunch of Turkey Day/Black Friday rebates. :|

Sal,

Just cut out the whole label; make sure you keep photocopies of everything you submit though. Instead of cutting through the cardboard, I just score the surface around the UPC label with an X-acto knife, and peel off the area I need.

As for shipping it, you should pack it inside another box. Staples doesn't when they deliver it to you because they deliver it by their own courier. If you're shipping through UPS (or any carrier), you have to protect the item.

Greatwolf, in the past when I've sent Staples rebates in it's taken a few weeks for it to show on their site. They aren't always the best at letting you know that your rebate was approved either. Sometimes I get the check and the site still shows processing.

Grr... I got my first scanner about 10 days ago. No worky. So I called and they said they could take it back. Exchange? No, sorry sir, we're out of stock. But you can return it, we will pick it up.

I do that and just order another scanner online (this time for the $80 rebate). Comes in yesterday. Again, it doesn't work!? Wtf am I doing wrong? I follow the instructions exactly, but the scanner head will only move about an inch and then it sticks. An error pops up on my screen saying that I need to unlock the scanner, even though I have (or else the head wouldn't have moved at all... not to mention when I look inside the glass I can plainly see the head is unlocked). Any ideas? Either I have really bad luck, or the 8100 doesn't like my computer.

ddjkdg-

I think you have a software problem, not a hardware problem. I have the Visioneer 8900 and have had a similar problem when using the Paperport software that came with the scanner. Whenever I first attempt to scan through Paperport, I get the "unlock" message. Clicking OK doesn't help. But, if I go to the other scan program that I have, do a scan and then attempt to use the Paperport program again, it works fine.

Another thing I've noticed is, if I have my scanner already turned on when I start my computer, I don't get the "unlock" message and it works fine on first scan with Paperport or any other program. But, if I turn my scanner on after my computer is already on, then the "unlock" message appears.

I haven't really investigated for any cures to the "unlock" message since I was able to get around it, but there must be an answer.

Parago "upgraded" its software last fall and the new version is much less informative. They used to include the check number and the date it was printed but now there seem to be just three states -- waiting for information, received waiting for processing, and denied.

Here's the status of my rebate: "Your rebate is valid and your reward is scheduled for fulfillment. Please allow 10 to 15 days for mail delivery. Thank you." Check number was also displayed. BTW, I used a $20 off $75 coupon AND a PM at the B&M. I know there were a lot of people worried about that. Looks like it's OK.

SafetyDance ~ mine says that as well, I pricematched to Andara at the Staples B&M and will make like $3.00 off of the deal. So they are fulfilling the rebates even for those that will make money.

The Parago check number "glitch" was a temporary problem with their software vendor when they upgraded last fall. The problem was fixed within a month. Parage/Staples is still providing check numbers in their online rebate status as they always have. See below for one that I just checked for the $70 Visioneer scanner mailed just two weeks ago! In addtion, with their last upgrade, you can now get this same information for rebates that are mailed vs submitted online. They also now have the ability to tell when and which financial instutition chashed your rebate check in case of a discrepency. The only problem that I personally have with the Parago rebate cente is those darn postcard checks that are extremely risky to send through the USPS automated sorting equipment.

Did you guys fill in the online rebate form when sending this rebate in? I didn't fill the online form out at the time since I didn't know about it. Would that cause any problems with my rebate?

if your using winders xp, see if you can use sp to scan. if you dont know how, just go to controll panel, then imaging devices, and rightclick the scanner. you can select scan, then go through the onscreen instructions. it may also be in the mycomputer window.

that should work if its the paperport that is causing the problem.

another thing, try to hook the scanner directly into the computer if you are using a hub. hubs suck. the whole usb everything sucks. but anyway, try that.

Could somebody please check the upc number that I have? The top of my box got a little mangled when it was shipped.
I think it says:
7 85414 10365 2
Is that what it's supposed to be?
Thanks!

Got in on this and the scanner works great; fast and quiet-

Does anyone know what "BMUpdate MFC Application" is? This program is installed when you install the scanner software, and it seems to be continally trying to access the internet- it gets picked up by Zonealarm and when I block it, it doesn't seem to affect the operation of the scanner at all. Is this thing trying to report back to the mother ship or something? It's always running in the background now, and I can't figure out why there would be any reason a scanner needs to access the Internet-
