Visioneer 8100 USB scanner -$6.00 (plus tax) after PM & MIR

More details: The OneTouch v3.0 works OK, but when I go through Paperport to Twain and click on Preview or Scan, the following error message comes up. "Please verify you have unlocked the scanner hardware. The lock is located etc." I verify the scanner is unlocked, slide the lock back and forth, then hit OK and then the software refuses to scan or preview. I can then go immediatly to OneTouch and it scans without a hitch.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software as well as the hardware, but the problem remains. (Windows 2000)

Any ideas as to what the problem is and how to fix it?

Also, if I bought this with the "Free Luggage" and then decide to send it back, will they make me return the luggage?

Same thing happened here, with XP and 98SE. but it would copy fine???

I dont think that I got a new one, Staples is picking it up this week and sending me a new one..
I specified that I wanted a sealed box with the XP logo on it. We will see.:frown:

This scanner is worth $10.00 but thats about in IMO

I finally got mine! I'm tryin' to use the new 8100logo drivers off the website. It took me practically forever to get 'em, but man... I think that I got the thing workin' I'm still messin' w/ it though!

I think that maybe we could move a lot of this discussion to the peripherials forum. I see that hahaha has already started a thread for his question. I think that maybe we could get down to the trouble shooting there a little easier and leave this thread for the dealio and/or trackin' of our rebates! (U know I'll be postin' here when it comes time)

Call up your local store (assuming you don't live in the boonies) and have them check stock on the SKU.

If they have it, ask if they can honor your .com purchase in store since you got a cancellation notice.


On another note, I noticed that PaperPort 8.0 Deluxe was $70 - $40 mail-in rebate in this week's Staples ad. I haven't checked, but deal should be good online as well and is a great value if you use a coupon on your order.

Last year, PaperPort 7.0 was $50 - $40 mail-in, but the new version gets you Windows 2000/XP logo certification. It also supports WXP WIA drivers, which is the new driver model for scanners and digital cameras in the future.

I can see why Staples is closing stores and employees go.

I ordered one of these and a pen to push me over $100. I received the pen in a 6x6x6 box last week. When I didnt see the scanner for a while, I sent an email inquiry. They assured me the two items I delivered would be in my hands soon.

Yesterday I got another pen in another 6x6x6 box.

Today I got the scanner.

By the way, the sacramento area staples stores have a blockade of these things laying around in the aisles. Stacked 5 high, 3 wide and the length of the aisle.

My advice to staples: ship the pens with the main products; ship the main products faster than 2 weeks; when you have a bazillion customers trying to order the items on line and dont have them, and have loads of them at the stores and no customers, figure out how that happened and cut it out.

XFile, place another order. The $80 rebate for the scanner is in effect and is on Staples.com's website now. It says the valid purchase dates are 2-14 thru 2-18. Maybe it's better that your scanner did get cancelled.

I guess if I was desperate for the add'l $10 I could do a return/rebuy on mine since I'm still within the 14 day return period. Nah, that's just being too greedy since I'm getting paid for the thing already.

Does anyone have the original $70 rebate form? The incompetent dolds at staples removed it from the web site and do not have it anymore! They told me there was never a rebate form on January 31! What a bunch of imbeciles, I could not believe my conversations with them. This morning I was told both that:

1. The price match could not be done because they have a $70 rebate "which makes the scanner almost free"

-- AND --

2. There was never a rebate form.

And they keep a record of everything they say! I have never met a stupider pack of cretins in my life!

i have a slight problem... i don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but i got the scanner and something else (Compact flash) shipped today but there was NO packing slip included!!! Will staples accept the rebates if i print out a copy of the email receipt or the order history receipt from their website??

If the scanner has a plastic pouch containing the shipping info attached to it, open up the pouch and that is the folded packing list.

there's no plastic pouch on the box - just a staples/ups tracking label slapped on the side... same for teh CF card - it came in a grey bag with a tracking label over it but there was no packing slip inside or outside of either packages. : /

I didn't receive anything either. Usually I get something with pink and yellow copies that has the price of the item and part number and I send that in for rebate purposes, but I got nothing this time. I just sent an email off to Staples rebates to find out what to do.

I was able to get rebates in the past with a print-out of the order details from their web site.

You can just print out your receipt from staples.com, I have done this about 25 times.
You really dont need your shipping invoice.
