We all get that. The fact remains that some people who bought a GF3 from the old, nV-based Vtek recently successfully RMA'ed defective ones with the new, ATi-based Vtek. So we're trying to be optimistic. The legal fact that the original company folded is nice for the lawyers, but it doesn't help artifex.

The Visiontek he is dealing with is a new company that just uses the same name. They do NOT have to support his old warrenty as that was with another company.

What they are doing is offereing you a card probable at their cost level for your old one. They are trying to be nice, even thought they do not have to even offer this.

I have a Elsa video card that has gone bad, but Elsa went out of business a while back so even though there is a NEW Elsa out there, my card still has no warranty.

That's not always legaly so, in many states (like IL where Hartford has a corp. home office, as was visionteks), when a total asset purchase happens, you may be liable for all or most warranty(s) as well. You are then in fact the new and same corp. as before... Visiontek products where still on the shelve here in IL and remained after the hartford purchase (they sold off all old stock)...

When S3 bought diamondmm some time ago, that is why (mostly) they killed the diamond name, and the same when via then bought S3, hince http://www.diamondmm.com list how to get support etc.. for the old diamond products since best data has bought the company/name and is bringing them back... Many states and/or federal corp. law may require you to honor warrany etc...

You still see Visiontek's cards there? What are the 4600s priced at?

I'm going to give in on this. Their latest response is that yes, they recently gave some cards, but not any more. If only I'd been able to borrow another card sooner, like in the summer I'll probably get one of the cheaper cards from them, then try to Ebay it or stick it in another box.

Compusa still had cards few weeks ago (when I was there last), $299.00 (crazy price).

I am planning on using the partial credit.
Even if I retained the card, which I have to return to get the credit, I wouldn't sell it to someone else without clearly stating that it's defective.

Yes, that was obviously his point.
My response was that I wouldn't do that.

If they send you a perfectly good functioning card as a replacement, what's wrong with selling it and putting the profit towards a better card?

That's not what he meant - "sucker" implied selling the bad card off.
I haven't yet decided whether to sell the replacement.

I am in the same boat. My Ti4600 died on me the other day. They are offering me a $125 credit on a real expensive Radeon 9800. The only one on the list of upgrades they offered me that I would consider is the 256 MB 9600. Is that comparable in performance to the Ti4600? I was also looking at a Bloody Monster 3 FX 5600. What do you think my best bet is? I'm running on an 8MB card right now because my 4600 died.

Fry's has got several Geforce FX 5600 cards for $80, 90, and 100. I went there yesterday because they advertised one with VIVO for $100. When I got there I found out it's just VO, but still. People are saying that the 4600 compares to the 9500 or 9600, so you might want one of those, using a partial credit.

Does anybody have REAL contact information for these scam artists? Their phone system doesn't work... it just puts you in an infinite loop. I was given an RMA # and told that they would replace my defective GF4 Ti4400, but it's been 4 months since I sent it in and I'm not very happy. There definitely needs to be a class action lawsuit filed against this crooked company. I hope this thread gets a lot of attention and nobody buys from VisionTek in the future under ANY circumstances.
