Visiting LA

The Mrs. and I are in LA for our honeymoon. We're staying in Anaheim near Disneyland and have park passes for 3 days. The other 3 days we are free to wander a bit. What are some things we can check out around here?

I should actually say two days... today is one of the unscheduled days and we're spending it laying around the hotel pool.

I'd check out Hollywood or maybe Sea World? When I went there last year we had three day passes to Disney and their other site and then for the other two days we went to Knots for one day and the last day was sort of a half day so we just drove down to a few shops along the way from Disney to Knotts and did a little shopping.

hit Venice, Manhattan Beach, Santa Monica, Catalina... a lot of the beachfront towns will offer you quite a bit of interesting local flavor in terms of restaurants and shops and such... Check out Sea World if youre into large-scale stuff like that. plenty of things to just stumble upon.

actually there are a ton of A++ restaurants in that area, I just love the turner rack of lamb.

Drive down to Seaworld. Check out the promenade in Santa Monica or the bikini girls walking around in Venice.
If I were you, I'd go to Long Beach and then take the ferry to Catalina Island. That place is amazing. You definitely won't regret that.

From anaheim, take 57 south to 5 south to 55 south and down newport bl. when you get to PCH, turn right to go to huntington, turn left to go through newport, and down into laguna. Stop at a beach, find a place to shop, hang out for a bit, do whatever. Pretty fun, but it's peak summer season so get down there before 11 if you think you'll want to park somewhere.

ironically enough, i'm from southern CA, too. but i don't like to hang out around L.A., so i really had nothing else to contribute to this thread.

I was just there. Traffic isn't too bad if you get into LA at the right times. Usually before 5pm and you are OK unless something happens. If you need any other tips, just let me know!

traffic is ok 930-430, and 7pm +

Let me guess. You live in LA?

You've probably gotten used to it. When going to SD I would drive all the way around LA because that place just sucks. San Fran is a much better place to go visit than LA.

You've probably gotten used to it. When going to SD I would drive all the way around LA because that place just sucks. San Fran is a much better place to go visit than LA.

or take the 5 to the 133 south all the way to the beach?

there are tons of other beaches other than laguna. definitely go to catalina if you can!

riiiiiiiiiiight...LA is not without it's problems but there's so much shit to do here that its hard to pass up.

Don't like LA at all. 90% of the people I've run into there are assholes.

Plan to spend a day at Catalina, if you go.

At least to go to Universal, even if you don't visit the theme park, there's a little themed shopping center right outside.

Go visit Hollywood while you're there, the walk of fame, hang around Hollywood and Highland you'll be fine. If you want a chance at the stars, get yourself to Rodeo drive.

Definitely go to Santa Monica, it's close to Maliboo (north) and a few miles away from Venice (south) so you can actually hit up three beaches at almost the same time. Each has its own flavor.

Depends on what you want to do or your taste, wine tasting is great. From where you are, Temecula would be a better choice for that. There are plenty of day passes to be found on the net. Visit Irvine Spectrum, South Coast Plaza, Fashion Island in Newport Beach, if you want shopping. Now, this is not what I would normally recommend to tourists, but if you like a laid back small city feel that's near LA with a buncha great restaurants and a nice shopping experience, come to Old Town Pasadena.

There are a lot more to do, but that'll do for now.

Only go to Disneyland for two days, then drive to Vegas for some adult play time.
