What are some good places to eat in the area? Not looking for sitdown/formal places. Any particular breweries in portland? Is the original starbucks worth going to? Haven't been there in over 20 years.

Last time I was in Seattle we stopped in for beer and pizza at the Alibi Room in Post Alley near the gum wall.

Further up the alley was a place called The Pink Door that has a Burlesque Trapeze lady flying around during dinner.

I thought both places had good quality food and were a good time.

Don't skip smoking weed with those wacky homeless kids in Westlake Park.

Red mill burgers are good. So are Burgermaster burgers. If the weather is clear, get some chowder or fish n chips at Ivar's down on the pier.

I live like a block from Burgermaster, so when I'm wanting something more than a Dick's burger, I usually go there.

So, I have limited experience with Red Mill burgers, but all of my few experiences have been good. If you like Cuban sandwiches, look for Paseo or Un Bien. Those are pretty good.

You like pho? There's a place in the international district that has really good pho. "Pho Bac."

I come from the land of pho. So I love it and it's great in socal.

Is the fish market worth checking out to see some dudes throw fishes around?

I think the market is worthwhile, sure. There's a lot more than just the guys throwing fish, anyway.

Btw I just checked and make sure you go to the Pho Bac on Jackson in a boat-shaped building. I guess there's another one in town on Minor, but I can't vouch for it.

I like the locks, and don't really care that it is not the absolute best fish and chips. The location more than makes up for it on a good weather day.
There is a red mill just down the road a ways, you can bring it to go and watch the very eclectic boat traffic lock through.

In general, if you're staying downtown, these are my descriptions of the various places "where the action happens" that would surround you.

Pioneer Square - lots of music venues/bars. Pretty good all around. Probably meet a lot of other out-of-town visitors.

Capitol Hill - very bohemian/progressive area. The crosswalks are rainbows, for example. Very active nightlife with a young/college crowd. Seattle University is right there on Capitol Hill. Several clubs/live music venues. Tons of bars. Crowds on the streets.

Belltown - very trendy area. A lot of popular clubs are in this area, with the usual club rat / aflluent douchebag / wannabe upscale crowd. I still enjoy this area, but you just kinda gotta go into it knowing what you're dealing with.

Queen Anne - bascially a blend between Belltown and Fremont/Ballard. Less douchey than Belltown, but less bohemian than Fremont/Ballard. Not a huge number of options, but some good locations.

Fremont - also very bohemian without the super-urban atmosphere like Capitol Hill. Some good music venues and straight up bars. Fremont and Ballard are basically where I spend the bulk of my nightlife.

Ballard - similar to Fremont, but kinda larger with more options and a broader appeal, IMO. A few good music venues. Mostly just a huge variety of bars, each carving out their own little niche.

Other honorable mentions:

SODO and Georgetown - I live on the North Side, so I don't get down to these areas very often, but I know that they are kinda "up and coming." There is a really, REALLY cool club in SODO that I go to on Saturdays from time to time because it has THE best house music in the city, in my opinion. Other than that, I don't really know much about these areas, other than they're probably still worth exploring.

Thanks. At the end of MI ghost protocol, was that seattle? The part where they are drinking beer and ving Rhames shows up. That looks like a nice place to chill

Check out the cannabis dispensary called "hast tag" in downtown Seattle. I think it's on Stone Road.

Awesome little shop. Get some high cbd truffles.

I went to the first Starbucks in Seattle and it is really small. Only really worth a see if you are a big Starbucks fan and want to get a mug or a Starbucks card that says the original Starbucks. Usually has a line out the door full of tourists.

However it is at the Pike Place Market so it doesn't take long to walk by it if your there anyways.

They have a free walking Market tour that includes food samples. It was awesome. There are food tours you pay for but the free one was great, just tip your guide at the end.

There's a really good comic store the level below the fish market. I've been in there several times.

Pike Street Brewing is down there too, and is fanstastic.

Portland recommendations...

There's a cubic shit-ton of breweries/brewpubs, so it's hard to narrow it down, but probably the best is Deschutes Portland Public House in the Pearl District of downtown Portland. Great stuff, great food, classy establishment. Hopworks Urban Brewery has a couple locations, but their SE Powell joint is the largest and worth a visit. Surprisingly kid-friendly, if that matters; there is also a section strictly for adults if you don't want to be around a bunch of screaming kids.

McMenamin's is an Oregon institution; they're a brewing company that buys old properties and repurposes them as breweries / restaurants / theaters, etc. The best to check out on a visit to Portland is Kennedy School, a converted elementary school which now houses multiple McMenamin's pubs, a restaurant, a theater and other amenities. If you've got more time on your hands, Edgefield is 30 minutes out of the city but it's an absolutely massive campus with onsite brewing, distilling and winemaking and all the amenities you could think of (billiards, a theater, golf, a hotel, a pool / sauna, live music, and several different restaurants and pubs... they've seriously got everything).

Other stuff to check out in Portland... Go to Powell's Books if you have any interest whatsoever in books. It's an awesome bookstore. Just make sure you opt for the downtown location on Burnside (which is only a few blocks from the Deschutes Public House). You should probably go by at least one food cart pod, since that's pretty much all Portlanders eat. Cartlandia is the biggest, but it's kind of deep in SE; there are scads to choose from all over the city and I haven't hit a bad one yet.

There's not a lot of "touristy" spots in Portland, so it's more about what sort of thing appeals to you. We do beer well.

Portland: Grab a steak, a beer, and some entertainment at the Acropolis.

Devils Point is also a classy place where $4 pints of micro's are always available.
