Portland recommendations...
There's a cubic shit-ton of breweries/brewpubs, so it's hard to narrow it down, but probably the best is Deschutes Portland Public House in the Pearl District of downtown Portland. Great stuff, great food, classy establishment. Hopworks Urban Brewery has a couple locations, but their SE Powell joint is the largest and worth a visit. Surprisingly kid-friendly, if that matters; there is also a section strictly for adults if you don't want to be around a bunch of screaming kids.
McMenamin's is an Oregon institution; they're a brewing company that buys old properties and repurposes them as breweries / restaurants / theaters, etc. The best to check out on a visit to Portland is Kennedy School, a converted elementary school which now houses multiple McMenamin's pubs, a restaurant, a theater and other amenities. If you've got more time on your hands, Edgefield is 30 minutes out of the city but it's an absolutely massive campus with onsite brewing, distilling and winemaking and all the amenities you could think of (billiards, a theater, golf, a hotel, a pool / sauna, live music, and several different restaurants and pubs... they've seriously got everything).
Other stuff to check out in Portland... Go to Powell's Books if you have any interest whatsoever in books. It's an awesome bookstore. Just make sure you opt for the downtown location on Burnside (which is only a few blocks from the Deschutes Public House). You should probably go by at least one food cart pod, since that's pretty much all Portlanders eat. Cartlandia is the biggest, but it's kind of deep in SE; there are scads to choose from all over the city and I haven't hit a bad one yet.
There's not a lot of "touristy" spots in Portland, so it's more about what sort of thing appeals to you. We do beer well.
