I'll have to agree with DestruyaUR, you will get better performace spending that $185 on a new amd cpu/mb combo than getting a geforce4 for a 450 mhz computer.

i got the geforce256 ddr =D. Dont play any high end games. Just warcraft2 and the such. Prolly get the radeon if its drops to 100 bux! but thinkin bout this! HEHE

This post made me finally join the forum.
So if I play mostly single-player fps games (currently rtcw) and have a fairly recent system (xp1500+ kg7R) system - with a gf2Ti - no problems currently on or offline - are these newer games that much faster that I won't keep up? Don't care about bragging rights - care about the games (only online game currently is the old fave halflife). Thanks for any advice about this new card. Don't do video edit etc.

RtCW is really CPU dependent. Just look at all the benchmarks between Radeon and Geforce 3/4 cards in video card reviews.

Just purchase the fastest XP CPU you can afford.

Didn't mean that - but P3 Katmais and Deschutes P2s are not good CPUs to mate GF4 Tis with.

A lot of people have been saying, "Hold off, GF4 prices will go down." Well, that's true of the other GF cards, but I really think this card is a solid buy RIGHT NOW. It's better than a GF3 TI500 (which has been out for half a year) at half the cost. Also, the price will stay at $199 retail for a very, very long time. This is their "value" card. They don't want to price this one any lower; it's just got too much power for a less than $200 graphics card.

Finally, this card is a real performer. GeForce 4s will be good for awhile - they take advantage of DX9, and have huge amounts of power. If you're looking for a good card, look no further. This is definitely the BEST DEAL you will find if you want a powerful card.
