Vista Beta 2 question. Any Microsoft people out there?

I have had Vista Beta 2 installed for some time. I was never able to solve the error message I was getting when trying to play a DVD on Windows media Player. The message reported 'not enough system memory' then would not play a common DVD. I took out my ATI Radeon 9200 and put in the old more powerful Nvidia 5950 Ultra thinking this would solve the problem and let my mothballed Athlon 3200 socket A system play a DVD with the otherwise perectly working Vista OS install. No go. I then took out my 2x512 Kingston PC3200 and tried to play a DVD with 2x1GB Cosrait PC3200. Still no go. Everything elese works fine. Vista was reporting 75% syatem RAM available with the 2 x 1GB and 50% system RAM available with the 2 x 512 MB.

Then I set my system clock, the one on the desktop taskbar, back to July 2006. THE DVD PLAYED PERFECT! Thank Jebus for Google. Apparently thousands of people have this same issue and are solving the 'software 'hitch' in this manner. Can someone explain to me in a technical response what does my system clock have to do with my DVD player's ability to function properly and play a DVD whn prompted to do so? At least I have something to look forward too with Vista coming out in a few weeks. Just mess with the system clock to get it up and running properly!

Thanks in advance.

From what I can recall, the encoder turns itself off after a certain amount of time and you are left without the correct codec to play DVDs.

Microsoft had to pay for the DVD playback license for the beta/release canidates, but they only paid it till the end of 2006. You can use VLC or some other free dvd playback software if you don't want to set back the clock.

Thanks. Kind of like driving around with expired plates and hoping no one notices. When I have my clock set back, I keep getting a message from OS about it. So I set the clock to today and just turn it back to July 2066 when I want to watch a DVD. Lovely. Is there a free dvd player download known to work with the Vista Beta 2 OS?
