I'm probably not the first person to say this, but I'm tired of this piece of garbage known as Windows Vista. Crashes, compatibility issues, I've had it. I'm going back to XP. Maybe when DX10 games are in full swing I'll give it another shot but for now it's BYE BYE VISTA!!!! The only thing that's kept me around this long is the pretty Aero GUI.
I upgraded my aging 3.0GHz P4 machine from 512MB of RAM to 2GB, and my X600PRO 256MB card to an X1950PRO 512MB card and have a 4.2 "experience rating" or whatever the hell they call it so it's not a performance issue, I'm just tired of nothing working. Quake 4 is nothing but a big crash-a-thon and it's time to go back to good ol' XP. I plan to build a 64bit DX10 system down the road and I'll proably give Vista another shot then.
I remember back when XP first came out it was the same story, I ran XP for about a week, got fed up and went back to Windows 98. About 12 months later I went back to XP and found things to be much improved. Hopefully Vista will be the same story.
The thing that really chaps my ass is how when you go to install a program and the nice little compatibility issue box pops up it offers to find you a solution on the web. You look for a solution and they point you to the software makers website. Thanks Einstein!!!! I'd have never figured that one out. JEEZE........
And guess what else? I've used Macs briefly and the thing I HATED about Macs is how they try to be so damn user friendly it actually HARDER to do things. Vista reminds me of exactly that. There should be an option in Control Panel that says "treat me like I'm (put age here) years old" Why couldn't they have just left things the way they were? Why change Add/Remove Programs to Programs and Features? I think they did crap like that simply to keep people from saying that Vista is just XP with a different GUI. People use an OS for years and then they decide to put everything in a different place or to name it something else. What a crock.
Well, when you hear from me again, it'll be from an XP machine. Thanks for letting me vent.
