Vista blue screen with Divx, Xvid

Just finished a new build with Windows Vista 32 bit version.

System:
Intel e6600
Intel D975XBX2 Motherboard
2G Corsair DDR2 800MHz
Sapphire Radeon X1950 Pro Ultimate Edition

I'm getting the Blue Screen in about 5 secs or less with a Xvid, Divx, or Mpeg 4 movie. I tried ffdshow and also the latest Xvid and Divx codecs.

Vista is reporting (after reboot) that I upgrade my video card driver, but I'm using the latest 7.2 Catalyst Driver.

Everything else seems stable including games like Oblivion.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE:

I finally discovered the problem.

It appears that my motherboards SigmaTel Audio Drivers/hardware are to blame.

I currently have the sound hardware disabled in the bios and no bluescreens with any type of move file.

Now that I discovered the problem, I'm having a hard time trying to solve it. I tried the latest sound driver from Intel with no success. I tried a couple of other things suggested elsewhere on the web.

I'm theorizing that the audio drivers are somehow corrupt in the registry. If so I may have to call Intel and get a suggestion.

From what I gathered on the web Vista handles audio differently than XP.

At this point I really don't want to re-install Vista 32 unless I have too.

Once again I'm asking for help.

Not sure what it could be, but did you try the XP codecs or the other all-or-nothing codec from www.freecodecs.com? I have it installed on my 64 bit Vista Ultimate, e6700, p5w DH, and 2gigs of Corsair XMS 6400 and the codecs work fine.

Same issue:

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3
Processor: Intel e6600
Video Card: ATI X1800XT
Memory: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit

I have tried various codecs, including those just released for Vista, as well as multiple video drivers.

I had similar problems on my main rig, and HTPC. I tried several different "codec packs", Divx, Xvid, and an old build of FFDshow to no avail. I finally got both systems working by uninstalling all that crap, and using a current build of FFDShow

I'm still blue screening with 7.2 drivers.

I'm contacting Sapphire Tech tomorrow on the issue.

No bluescreens here from xvid or divx, have ATI and 7.1 drivers (haven't updated yet, maybe I shouldn't?) ... I'm using the Vista Codec Pack as well as FFDShow.... I *DO* get Media Center crashes when previewing XVid/DivX files, however But they do play, as long as I don't get let Media Center try to thumbnail them. No bluescreens though.

No problem using KMPlayer and its internal codecs.

Uninstall all codecs, and try opening the divx/xvid files w/ KMPlayer.

not of any help really but i am using RC2 ultimate vista and not a single BSOD or crash in 2 weeks since installing it. using coreavc/ffdshow etc in media player classic.

might be because i am using the included drivers for my 7950gx2 and havent updated them.

might be worth a go just removing your graphics drivers and using the default and seeing if the same thing happens.

Jamie571, any progress?

I've got the exact same problem. Maybe it's not the gfxcard/drivers. I've got a nvidia card (7600GT) and I've tried with 3 different drivers with no luck. Always a blue screen everytime i try to watch divx/xvid. No problem at all running games like civ4 and half-life 2.

Have you tried running XP or some other OS with the same hardware? I'm beginning to think that this is a hardware issue.

i have the same issues... looking at your hardware, the only thing we have in common is our memory (manufacturer) and a 965p chipset.

I'm getting the feeling that this really is a hardware issue. I'm going to try and install win xp this weekend and see if the problem remains.

The only hardware you, me and Jamie571 have in common is our memory, but that seems far fetched. What I think is really strange here is that my system only BSODs when I'm trying to play video, never when doing "similar" tasks like playing graphic intense games.
