ATI X1650pro passive cool
1x 250GB Western Digital IDE
2GB ready boot fast drive corsair
CCC pack = for xvid , dvix , H.264 , MKV , OGG ( http://www.cccp-project.net/ CCC works with Vista 64bit and i consider it to best codec pack out their , nothing comes close to really )

No problem : )

Tried the CCC pack; still got blue.

I did discover something new. I didn't have an Xvid codec installed and I went to play a Xvid movie. Obviously no video played, but the sound still worked (MP3). This went on for about a 20 secs then I got a blue screen.

Do a fresh install of Windows Vista 64bit and don't install any codec and then just only one codec pack like CCC. To me it seem you got codec conflict.

Debug the blue screen (rather than guessing) and you'll be able to tell exactly what caused the BSOD.

Since codecs don't run in kernel mode, they're not responsible for this.

Using codec packs, IMHO, is a very bad idea.

Are you using the motherboard-supplied audio drivers or the drivers supplied by the Vista install?

Have you run Windows Update for all (ALL) updates?

I have the same Media Center issue exactly as you described.

i think i have the same problem.
vista home premium
core 2 duo e6300
MSI P6N SLI-FI
2 gb A-data ram DDR800
nvidia 6600gt

i experience blue screens sometimes while using skype or playing media files. (both audio and video files) since i get a crash when i use skype or play audio files, i think it's an audio related issue

my board has onboard hd audio codec by realtek (ALC888)

bluescreen stop code is 0x00000124

edit: just a few minutes ago, playing music, a bluescreen 0x00000124. i am not sure if the problem will go away if buy a sound card but the alc888 is pretty good quality and it integrates well with vista's audio panel

if vista's audio has been written completely anew so that it no longer runs with the kernel, how do audio problems cause a computer to completely crash?

maybe my board has a defect and i should try to RMA?

Hey guys,

It sounds like I'm having the same problem. ATI's been passing my ticket around for over a month with no solution so far. I'm listing my system components below... it looks like there may be some common elements here.

MSI 975X Platinum v.2 motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86 CPU
Corsair 800MHz XMS2-6400 memory (4x1GB modules)
ATI X1650 Pro PCI-E graphics

I wouldn't think any other components would be relevant to this problem, but I'm also using a Western Digital SATA 320GB hard drive and a DVD writer from LG with Lightscribe.

The system is running Vista Ultimate, 32-bit OEM.

Has anything worked definitively for any of you yet?

i switched to Vista 64 bit and haven't had a single issue. erik you may want to try the same since you are running an E6300

edit: just noticed you said you had OEM. not sure if you can get access to the 64 bit counterpart of Ultimate

are you using onboard sound? because that has been the common element between the blue screens? do you have a creative card laying around that you can test out?

in case anyone is interested in an update. msi has released a new bios for my motherboard and I read off some other forum about this issue that you could try disabling CIE support in the bios screen. well i installed the bios and disabled CIE. either way, I no longer experience BSOD 0x00000124 with media or skype. i only have the combined community codec pack installed with media player classic as the main media player.

system information again:
vista home premium (oem)
MSI F6N SLI-FI
intel core 2 duo 6300
nvidia 6600gt
2x1GB a-data ddr800 ram
using integrated realtek alc888 hd audio codec
