Send me the dump and the computername.cab file from MPSReports (see my .sig) - I'd like to see this. I've seen reports of BSOD'ing with Toshiba PCs and MOV files; I'm interested in seeing what this issue is.

I'm not sure what a Stop 124 is. I'm not sure there is a MS stop code of this type. It could be a third party stop code.

If it's a stop 7C (hex of 124) then there isn't such a thing as a first parameter of 0.

7Cs is an NDIS failure. Often NIC or FDDI driver.

WMPlayer is related, but it's saying a hardware error (that's all I see) - Smilin, what else do you see? Anything using internal resources?

OP: If you play the media with VNC or a third party player, does this happen?

Tried using DIVX player for movies, and it crashed immediately. iTunes seems semi-stable (works for an hour or so, then crashes)

I had it do the same thing when uploading images to imageshack last night as well, but it only happened once. WMP and DIVX were on a constant basis though

Caveman - do you have any codec "packs" installed?

Does this happen if you uninstall ALL aftermarket (non-Microsoft) codecs (except iTunes)? (In other words, remove all DIVX and other add-in packs)

Does this happen with other sound cards? (Have you tried any?)

Heres the file

It will crash at random times as well (like when uploading pictures, or using Photoshop) with the same error, but it ALWAYS crashes with WMP and Divx. Tried my Audigy 2 ZS and my Integrated Realtek sound as well

Can you answer my second question, please?

This was occurring ever since I first installed vista on this new machine. one of the first things I did was copy over music to listen to while windows update was running, and it bluescreened in the middle. so yes, it happened before anything else was installed

iTunes never crashed for me and I've been using it for 3 hours while surfing around on the web and downloading updates etc. I am not running in compatability mode either.

if you have divx installed ditch it... get xvid instead. divx has serious issues in vista and won't even play videos using the codec for me. xvid has no problems and runs right under WMP without fail. Also works great with media center if you use that.

then you have issues beyond the codecs. Sorry I can't help...I had trouble with divx and went to xvid and all is ok for me

Okay, just tried a clean install of vista, same damn thing, no drivers installed, only installed the xvid codec, no updates to sound or anything

I might be heading back to XP (doh, as i love everything else, it it seems much faster) since that didn't crash...

It could be your sound or video hardware that has an issue with vista directly...it changed a few things that XP did differently.

this is a stretch, but try disabling C1E support in your bios. I did that and it may have solved my problems.

Yes, I was having a very similar problem to yours, at least with WMP, it would crash whenever I would run it, and also BF2 and BF2142. They both would give me a BSOD when I tried to play both games and also with WMP. It would also happen in Windows Messenger too, when someone would reply. I disabled C1E in the BIOS...it should be in the CPU area somewhere. Anyway, as soon as I did that, all the BSOD's went away! It's been 2 days now and no BSOD's!

I have a Core 2 Quad Q6600 and a Asus P5B-E mobo with 4GB of Corsair XMS PC5400 RAM. It sounds like you might be having the exact same problem. Before I disabled the C1E, I tried using my onboard sound and it did the same thing as my X-Fi card, but if I disabled the sound completely in Device Manager, nothing crashed! So, at the very least, it's worth a try and I think it just might work!
