I had the same problem. It was being caused by the Zoom modem driver that Vista was DLing from the MS website during install. During the install, say no when it asks if you want MS to help make the install go better. You can selectivly download each update after you get Vista installed. The way I found the problem, was to install Vista without updates or new drivers. Then, I did an Acronis True Image backup before installing the next update/driver. When I DL'd the modem driver update, I got the BSOD and restarts. Fortunately, the ATI backup came to the rescue. I then removed the modem , since I don't use it anyway.
