Vista Business 64bit: VPN Client

I need to purchase a VPN client for Vista Business 64bit. The catch is, I need it to be able to importe .pcf files (our config/key files).

I found one client for $150, but there have to be other options out there. What do you recommend?

i don't have any experience with it, but most recommend the NCP client as a 64-bit alternative to the Cisco client. AnyConnect is also an option, but its going to depend on your environment.

Last I checked, Cisco CPN clients are free to people with a SmartNet. Ask your IT team.

They list 64-bit as supported as of 2.3:

Windows Versions

?Windows Vista?32- and 64-bit Microsoft Windows Vista SP2 or Vista Service Pack 1 with KB952876.

?Windows XP SP2 and SP3.

?Windows 2000 SP4.

That's the SSL VPN Client. He needs the IPSec VPN Client which is not supported by any 64-bit OS.

Cisco does NOT plan to create a 64-bit version, which is super fucking lame.

NCP is the only alternative I've seen, although I haven't played with it yet. Let me know how it is though... I've been wondering.

This is off-topic, but the failure of Cisco to come up with 64-bit VPN clients is one of the reasons that I switched from Cisco PIX/ASA to Watchguard. All firewall vendors have issues, but client OS support should be #1 priority after a secure firewall!

Yeah after a brief chat with my cisco guy they pretty much have said they want to drop the IPSEC client. The NCP option is expensive... Looks to me that the SSL option would be cheaper to enable and buy. Of course this doesn't help the OP. I keep seeing something called "shrew" mentioned. Dunno if that is useful though.

The whole reason you'd buy a Cisco VPN gateway is because their Windows VPN client is the best solution out there. So Cisco is planning on fixing that. I don't get it, but, then, I don't get a lot of Cisco's decisions.

cheaper to use SSL than IPSEC. nothing really wrong with SSL you can tunnel anything through it.
