It's a new build. I think it's either the card itself, or driver issue. The build is rock solid, except for this huge flaw. Cpu is overclocked, and gave it, and the ram a bit of a bump on voltage for stability. It is only in-game that the display driver craps out, and my screen goes blank for like 10 seconds.

I've tried reinstalling the ATI driver several times. No go. I have yet to try an older version, I may try this later today. Anyone experience this? What could it possibly be?

It is, an E2140
X1950XT (swapped out the stock cooler fearing the issue may be heat related)
DFI P965-S (Flashed Bios to latest, issue persists)

I may just test it out on XP (I'd have to install it on an free partition), however lengthy a task it may be. Also, I need to test if it happens in other games, but that wouldn't make sense right?

When I first got it, the cpu was running @ 2.1 Ghz, up from the stock 1.6. This was only because the lowest fsb I could set in the bios at the time was 266. So then, 2.1Ghz was the lowest I could go. TBH, I haven't tried it @ 1.6 after updating to the latest bios. I got these parts from another member. He had it running @ 3.2ghz, no issue, same mobo/VidCard...

I'm thinking about trying some really old drivers...

Or how about running at stock speeds? I'm not sure why you have the mistaken impression that your overclock is somehow guaranteed just because someone else had it running overclocked in their system.

Its the exact same parts. Not the same models, but there are his parts that he sold to me. I do consider an e2140 running at 2.1Ghz (Which at the time had no choice) a very conservative overclock.

1. I wrote a detailed thread about this "issue"...
2. First thing you should do i run at stock and see if it happens. I don't care how conservative your overclock and over voltage is. Test it at stock first.

Just to add my 2 cents...I had a Prescott CPU running at 3.8GHz -- memtest/prime stable for over 36 hours, yet it couldn't complete 1 hour loops of 3D Mark. I put it back to stock and it could run 3D Mark all night long.

In my case, it turned out to be a bum Power Supply, but it was nerve wracking.

OP, even if things appear to be working perfectly, running the computer out of spec can always have an effect on stability. It doesn't hurt to try things at stock to see if things get fixed. Don't be afraid of stock settings!!!

Good points amdhunter.

testing suites like memtests are exactly that, a testing suite. It tries to SIMULATE real world applications. It is imperfect. You can pass all the simulations and still fail in a program.

Passing memtest means you can run memtest without errors. Passing OCCT means you can run OCCT without errors. it does not mean you can run game X without errors.

Just to update:

I've reverted to XP and couldn't be happier. As I suspected, it was a Vista/Card/Driver Issue. My overclock never changed any results, no matter how low or high I would adjust it. It felt pointless to mess with stability software when other games behaved properly. Note: The crashing occurred in my most played game, and it was all I cared about.

To elaborate further: this Mobo has confused me quite a bit, It was tricky to get this thing running 1:1. It was just as tricky trying to figure out how to get the chip running @ stock, when the mobo wouldn't let me go below a 266 fsb. But again, it wasn't the overclock that was causing the issues.

I like my current setup, OS X has become my main os environment, and I boot XP to game, which is nice because the xp install stays lean. oh, and I have now overclocked the chip significantly more.
