I'm getting "error Codes" with both when I try to update them. Specifically:

- Windows Update - "Windows could not search for new updates. Error(s) Found: Code80245003

- Windows Defender - The program can't check for definition updates. Error found: Code 0x80245003

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Try stopping the Automatic Updates service, renaming C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution to SoftwareDistribution.old, restarting the Auto Updates service and trying Windows Update again. It should recreate the SD folder (I believe you will lose your updates history though).

check your time and date and make sure they are current. The only time I have error codes in windows update was because of having the wrong day and time on my computer.

Sorry, I had originally said Auto Updates, the actual name of the service is Windows Update, are you sure you stopped it before you tried to rename the SD folder?

If so, stop and disable the service, restart and try renaming it. If that doesn't work, try it in safe mode. Don't forget to re-set the service to Automatic when done!

Safe mode allowed me to rename that folder and it worked. Thank you!
