Asus P5W DH Deluxe. with E6600. HDD 2x320GB on Raid 0 EZ-Raid. Original OS was windows xp profesional.
I bought OEM Vista from Newegg. I decided to do an upgrade. Everything went good, and when the installation process went to restart the computer, it booted as usual, and went to a screen that has selection.
1. original windows
2. windows setup.

i chosed windows setup, and then it went to another screen that has 'windows setup' on the bottom for a few second, then reboot again. keeps on doing it if i choose option 2.
when i chosed option 1, it went in the xp again.

I decided to do clean install after it. It recognize the CD, and booted from the CD. it came to a black screen that has "windows setup" on the bottom. but it didnt continue, and just rebooted again.

I'm a bit frustrated now... can anyone please help me with this problem.
Oh btw, i ran that vista upgrade advisor thing, and everything checked out okay.
Thanks guys

how are you booting to the CD/DVD rom? I know sometime when i booted winxp cd with out setting boot cd-rom first in bios it would get werid results like you are getting.. but i didn't have such an issue with vista yet. Also another guess it might be you RAID 0... not sure maybe some more knowledgeable about installing vista can help as i had no issues at all and it was straight forward so i don't remember everything i did... Sorry

You might have a bad disk. I had no issues with my installs however if you cannot get past this problem I'd contact the egg for a replacement.

Instead of upgrading, I went to a dual boot with XP Pro. I had no issues with this at all. Sorry I don't have something to offer. I got the OEM from Newegg as well. I also did my install without entering the key. I am not sure how this makes a difference though.

Try a different DVD drive if possible,I actually used an external USB 2.0 Lite-On burner to install my OEM version on boot up.

Also try putting the Vista DVD in a friend's PC and see if you can explore the contents.

Long shot,I read one guy could not install the OS with a USB keyboard, he had to use a PS/2 keyboard and it installed fine, are you using USB keyboard?

Just use a usb to ps2 adaptor. You can find them at walmart, radio shack, best buy or circuit city. Hell most people have some lying around. That will get you past that problem. I personally still use one because of issues trying to enter bios with a usb keyboard before support is enabled.

I also have that mobo. What BIOS are you running?

I ask because the P5W DH Deluxe cannot install Vista unless you have BIOS 1707.

If you don't have that version, login to XP, install 1707, try installing Vista and post back here.

If BIOS update does not work ,see if you can install from a single HD only, this will rule out a RAID problem,I would also be inclined to run Memtest86+ as well to make sure ram is 100% ok.

You could also try making a copy of the DVD. I had this happen with a recovery disk from HP or Toshiba. I just ripped it using Alcohol 120% and then burnt it and it ended up working. It might be something wrong with the disk itself. Good luck.
