Vista Install

I have a new core 2 Duo E6600 with 2GB Ram that I just built. I was going to install Windows XP in the next couple days, but I just got an email that Vista is available.

Since this is a brand new and clean install would it be better to wait a couple days to install Vista or just upgrade from XP later on??

I haven't kept up to date on Vista and its advantages. Of course the Microsoft Website praises it but beta testers seem to be mixed.

Any thoughts?

Vista IS NOT available to the general public AFAIK.

It is available to businesses and OEM builders (which is probably not you)

If you think you'll want to run Vista you might as well jump in now and get used to it, if you think you might stick with XP until forced to move on then stick with XP. It's really just personal preference.

I'm not terribly up-to-date with Vista developments, but I've been hearing some grumbling re: lack of driver support in Vista*. If the main purpose of your new rig is gaming, I'd suggest holding off on Vista for some time.

*Main argument against those protests is that at the time, only Vista Business had been released, and the OS wasn't ready for consumers yet.

I'm somewhat with Mundane. If your rig is for gaming, go XP. If your rig is for just general use though, I'd recommend Vista if you can get your hands on it. However, like Wizboy11 said, it's not for sale to the general public.

Personally I've been working (developing software 50+ hrs/wk) under Vista and after I ended up turning off UAC and have come to an understanding with the half-broken IIS in it (RC2 so I'll cut Microsoft some slack), it's not bad at all. I think any non-gaming pc of mine will have Vista on it if I can reasonably afford to do so. However, I have quite a few XP licenses so $$ may be enough of a reason to hold me back from Vista for most of my PCs but I'd like to get Vista on them.

A word of warning, though: be sure you understand the different flavors of Vista or you'll buy a somewhat-useless OS depending on what you need to do!
