Vista, Microsoft OneCare and Windows Defender

I'm using Vista Ultimate retail and I installed Microsft OneCare about a week or so ago. I've today noticed that Windows Defender is deactivated.

Should Vista's Windows Defender be on or off when OneCare is present? Since OneCare includes spyware detection, I'm not sure if running both is just a duplication of service. Also, I did deactivate Windows Defender at any time; does installing OneCare automatically deactivate Windows Defender? I can't find any info on Microsoft's website one way or another.

I know that installing OneCare on my copy of Ultimate automatically turned off the Windows Firewall, because it, too, is built into OneCare. I'd imagine the same is happening with Defender.

OneCare's antivirus scanning engine has the same spyware protection as defender, in XP it is safe to uninstall defender (unless you want the tools), as mentioned in my review of OneCare. Not sure if one can uninstall Windows Defender in Vista. I doubt many of the technical FAQs on microsoft's site will yield that much info on the subject, as this feature and vista support were only added in the recent version, 1.5.
