Vista MPEG-2 Decoder

So I recently upgraded my HTPC and decided to give Vista a try. After finding out my 7600GT would not do hardware acceleration of video I updated it to an HD3850.

I'm still not very impressed with the picture quality either in movies or recorded TV. Both of these are MPEG-2 encoding and I am using the MS built in decoder.

When on XP I used Purevideo and the picture quality was much better - colors that did not look digitized (blocks of colors moving around on an object), better upscaling, and much much better deinterlacing. Unfortunately Nvidia did not release a version of Purevideo for Vista.

Is there a better MPEG-2 decoder around for Vista or am I just stuck with the built in one?

Also, does Vista do upscaling of video? DVDs do not look as good as they did on XP, at least the few I have watched so far. Is there any way I can make sure it is upscaling my content to 1920x1080 for my HDTV?

I would give CCCP a shot. First run the CCCP insurgent program, clean out what needs to be cleaned out, then install CCCP and try media player classic. it's working flawlessly for me in vista, and it should upscale nicely.

OK so I have read a bit about CCCP, and it might do the trick. Does it work well with Media Center from anyone's experience? I see that it bundles in ffdshow which is something I have been thinking of trying out anyway.

Unfortunately I don't have mediacenter (vista business) so I can't comment.
