I wouldn't take Vista if it was FREE.

Knock off the threadcrapping.

You can only install the OEM version on one PC EVER.

Unless you call to activate it.....

And how long does it work without activation? 30 days maybe?

I have no idea, I just installed Vista Premium OEM and it said I had 3 days to activate it. Luckily for me, It doesn't take me more than 3 days to get to a phone.

BTW, Microcenter has Vista Home Premium OEM for about $122, sometimes they have sales and bring it down to $111. They have all of the other OEM versions as well.

Why does that matter?

i waited 30 days to activate my OEM copy

... in case i had a defective MB or wanted to exchange it at NewEgg for a SLI MB
-this one is a 'keeper' ... should be fine for Penryn too; btw, Vista is an excellent OS - as good as XP for recent games ... i sure resisted changing to Vista but now it makes XP seem primitive

Funny you should mention that. Microcenter ad for 7/30 to 8/12 has Vista Home Premium OEM for $109.99.

Wow, nice! I had seen it on sale for $111 for a couple of weeks, and by the time I decided to get it the sale had expired, but they still had the tags on display. Of course when I got to the register it rang up at regular price, but after a manager checked and saw the sale sign he went ahead and gave me the sale price.

I really like Microcenter, I love the fact that they have some pretty comptetive prices on most of their PC components, even though they are mainly a B&M store. Their CPUs are always priced to match newegg, ZZF, etc... but I'm willing to pay a little bit more for their other stuff, just for the convenience of getting it right there in the store. It really makes me wonder how a place like compusa can survive with their retardedly high prices.

Not much longer...
Many more than half have already gone bye-bye.
The rest is expected to completely disappear by year-end from what I was told.

I bought the academic version of home premium for $70 from Campus tech and it has worked great. Good deal if you are in school or have kids in school or work for a school....etc.

Back on topic, has anyone actually ordered from this place and received genuine cd's? It seems a little strange that the "Qualifies for FREE shipping" is ALWAYS at least $5 more than the price of the item you're ordered. Seems shady to me...

There is no way of even verifying if these are legitimate Windows copies or licenses. Always buy your software from a reputable dealer or be prepared to suffer the consequences of pirated media.

As of this posting, ZZF has modified their pricing and the 32 bit version is now $99.99, with free shipping, trumping all! (64 bit is now $109.99)

I wish I would have seen this before I spent $80 for Sage PVR software. I could have gotten another OS also for only $20 extra...

Hypothetically, could I install this on 2 different machines and run them just fine with all the updates?

That is, after I call them to activate.

Hypothetically, that is stealing. You get one license per computer.

What's the story with the Academic upgrade...does it work the same as the XP upgrade worked? Just have to have the XP original to install? Any other catches?
