No key required to install but it will only run for 14 days or is 30 days and then you need a key and have to activate it.

1. Download

2. Mount in daemon tools

3. Choose a partition for fresh install

No burning needed and no need to extract the iso file.

Thanks, downloading now!

Do I have to uninstall XP before I install Vista? Will this RC2 come with the drivers that I need, or should I go to all 3rd party websites and try to download Vista drivers for each of my components?

Thanks in advance!

I'd be very cautious about uninstalling your version of XP for this beta software. It's perfect for a second computer, but I'd be worried you'd have trouble getting Microsoft to reactivate your copy of XP should you decide to go back (and I suspect you will as this software will expire in the middle of 2007).

Nonetheless, hot deal! I've got my copy downloading now.

i finally will get to get to use my win98se partition.

just create another partition on your HD for Vista . . . that way you won't have to unintall anything.

and i am curious to see what Vista looks like . . . considering i will HAVE to upgrade in my next build IF i want to play DX10 games
. . . of course there won't be any "full" Dx10 games for at least two years - but since i have to upgrade, i might as well 'go vista' by SP1, if not sooner

The "OpenGL problem" is only ATI's problem, as I understand it. Their current drivers do not have an OpenGL ICD, so any recent OGL games will not run (though strangely enough, old stuff like Quake2/3 runs fine for me [/i]). I have read that Nvidia's latest Vista drivers do have OpenGL support though.

In any case, it's not an issue with the operating system that OpenGL doesn't work...that falls on the video card drivers at this point

Fresh install only, no upgrades...

I had to format again from 5600 to 5744...
At least so far its worth it.

I installed RC1 last week, then downloaded RC2 last night. It won't let you upgrade, so you have to format and reinstall.

I set it up identically, and RC1 5600 seemed to run faster than RC 2 5744. Less bugs but more bloat?

Well, I burned it OK. But I'm stopped at the installation process. It needs drivers for my NEC ND-3550A dvd burner, which I read on the web are not available. I have a Liteon SHM-165H6S around here too. Anyone know for sure if the Liteon is Vista ready?
Thanks

I am using a ND-3550a and had no issues
If you are going to dual boot, like most are, just copy the contents of the dvd to another partition, and run setup from there....

Also, 1,532 page views in 24 hours... DAMN

I at first clicked the setup icon from within XP, and it told me I can't upgrade that version of windows.I then tried to load it on a clean drive and got the CD/DVD driver warning.

I've never dual booted before. If I create a primary partition, and load the DVD contents into it, are you saying to run the install from within XP?

Forgot to mention that I'm trying to load the 64 bit version, so that probably makes sense that you can't upgrade the 32 bit XP to the 64 bit Vista.

Thats probably the problem.. I didnt realize you were trying to load the 64bit version..
I ran that for a short period. Not worth it at this time....
Tooooooo many driver/software issues.. Stick with the 32bit version for now

I did the upgrade from RC1 just fine.
Boot up vista, Put in the CD, run setup, update the setup, enter product key, agree license agreement, choose upgrade, and that's it.
