Installed this late last night as well but didn't really get a chance to play around with it. Boot-up didn't seem any faster, if anything it was slower before I got a responsive desktop due to McAfee Security Suite and my printer drivers releasing my desktop. Hopefully this was only because of a first bootup.

My SP1 set-up was also rock solid stable, but similar to Cardio I had occasional IE crashes. I think this is largely due to residual flash player issues, but I also had a problem with one of my RAID drives dropping out of the array (fixed by using molex instead of SATA connector) that might have been locking up IE. Also had a few instances of games crashing on exit, but this seems pretty common for certain titles.

Mainly installed SP2 because some of the notes about video performance improvements and other hardware related enhancements piqued my interest. Will run a few benches later and see if there's any noticeable gains in performance.

Either you have no idea how to use computers or I'm using a completely different operating system than you.

I'm going to have to go with the first...because...yup, I'm running Vista. And...yup, I can do all of the things you apparently can't. Hm...

I just downloaded it from my Microsoft tech subscription. I ran it but I don't think I have it. My computer properties still say Sp1.

How can I confirm that I have sp2 beta?

I have it up and running now and I see no boosts of any kind, but I haven't used it much.

He's something interesting though:
I also assembled a computer today for my mother and I have them both running Vista (mp SP2 for mom). I installed Live Mesh and I'm using my mothers PC to remote into mine and using that to post this message, and they're only about a foot apart from each other.

System or Winver will tell you if you have SP2 installed.

Networking seems to be somewhat slower for me. Other than that, no problems and no unexpected crashes or glitches.

installed it late last night, no problems to report and seems a little quicker but was quick before, it did put 'Evaluation copy, Build 6002' under the recycle bin for some reason, having acronis makes me feel confident i can recover if something goes wrong, on a note i hav'nt had IE freeze up yet.

All copies do that after the second reboot, its noted in the readme file. It should disappear after the second reboot after you uninstall.

Anyone else tried it yet?

Uh my bets on it cured a previous problem. Service packs never make anything faster generally they just fix more stuff and add things.

I tried to give it a go on my laptop, but after finishing step 2 of 3 (I don't think it went to step 3 yet, unless step 3 only takes one second), it hung on shutting down for over 2 and a half hours. I forced the computer off and then it wouldn't start back up. I just got a black screen with this:

!! 0xc0000034 !! 132/47822 (_000000000000000000.cdf-ms)

I'll give it another shot using the stand alone installer instead of Windows Update, but if that doesn't work I'll just wait for the official release.

Well I'm on my desktop now because my laptop is hanging on shutting down again after completing step 2/3. I'll leave it for another 20 minutes this time but I doubt it will finish.
Oh well, at least the installer makes a system restore point.

Dumb question...
So you need SP1 installed first, before installing SP2?
Are they dependant on each other?

Heh!

43% downloaded and counting...

EDIT

Interesting!

While I'm D/Ling SP2 beta, I'm reading the Hotfixes & Security updates - I keep seeing hibernation this and hibernation that...

I've been having problems with my lappy coming out of hibernation for the last year and a half - thought it was a hardware problem!

It'll be interesting to see if SP2 beta fixes it.

100% downloaded...

EDIT2

S-M-O-O-T-H Baby! Like a Cadillac!

22 minutes to do the SP2 beta update...

Gawd! I installed/uninstalled SP1 beta like 3 times... took over an hour each time.

Well, so far, so good!

LoL!

Secunia PSI notified me that .NET Framework 3.xx was patched halfway through the update...

First impression...

As others have reported, start-up & shutdown times are about the same, maybe longer, but Dude...

The apps are flying!!

EDIT

Did a defrag, as suggested above (that app flew too) - seemed to help boot times...

Anyway, this machine is definitely spunkier now!

LoL!

Come on in... the water's fine!

Ok, I must be a glutton for punishment because I tried a 3rd time while playing some TF2. I let it sit at Shutting Down... for over 3 hours this time and still had to force it off. This time, same black screen, but it said 132/50932.

Oh well, I guess SP2 isn't going on my laptop. I'm not willing to try it on my desktop.

I looked over the list of changes in sp2 and so far haven't really seen anything that would make my pc faster.

looks like SP2 broke the registry to MS Street and Trips, error 1706, no valid source could be found, S&T repair install will fix this, hope nothing else is broken.

Odd, when I click on "Computer" in Vista X64, it opens with showing me all my available drives and not in my documents folder. I've never altered anything for this.

Isn't that how it should be? It's always been that way for me.

Well, I'd love to try SP2, but with my laptop being the only working computer at the moment with Windows on it in my fleet, I am hesitant because of mb's problems.

The funny thing is, I don't have any hibernation problems. Only sleep problems. My computer refuses to sleep properly so I can only hibernate now.

Heh!

This is a repeat of SP1 beta...

I installed/uninstalled SP1 beta several times - even 'pulled the plug' when it said to NOT turn off your computer (trying to break it) - and I didn't have any problems to speak of...

Actually, I would have to go back and check the achieves here. Now that I think about it, I had a problem with the icons in the taskbar or something, mostly related to me goofing around.

Anyway, SP2 Beta is great so far - better than the initial releases of SP1, sooo...

I guess you'll have to defer to my sig...
