Isn't that how it should be? It's always been that way for me.
Click on your user name or Documents to see your document folders...

Yeah...it's always been like that for me.

Meh, count me out. SP2 causes BSODs while doing nothing more strenuous than web browsing on my overclocked Q6600 with Vista Ultimate 64 desktop. I had to drop my clock 240mhz just to keep it from crashing. It also did nothing to correct the well know network file transfer problem I have, which SP1 didn't fix either. Well done MS.

Installed SP2 on my Vista test rig. Installed worked fine, no problems.

Haven't noticed any speed increases in my limited testing using the OS, nor had any stability issues yet.

I would imagine it would run stable on stock speeds. Which network file transfer problem are you pertaining to? I'm able to do 110+mb sec push and pull a file from Vista to XP as many others are able to. Many have had issues for network performance to due to bad network drivers for Vista, firewalls, autoconfigure tcp, flow control for rx& tx settings etc.

I have a Toshiba laptop with 2 gig ram that is slow as molasses going uphill with Vista.

I just went here and downloaded it. (Search again and sort by date if you want the 64-bit version)

Ok, I lied. I put it on my desktop - absolutely no problems at all. Installed in like 20 minutes. I can't really see much of a performance gain, but then again my desktop has always felt blazing fast.

The point is, if it was rock stable with SP1 at a certain speed, it should be stable with SP2. Disagree? It might be stable at stock speeds but who the hell wants to run stock speeds?

As far as the network transfer problem, I'm referring to the one where transfers will hang at "calculating" the moment they're initiated (sometimes hanging explorer in the process) when moving files over the network. In all the searching I've done this seems to be a pretty common problem. Microsoft put out a hotfix for this problem, but they've since rolled it into SP1 and I can't find the hotfix itself from any site I'd trust. I've tried every driver and done every tweak I could find to try to fix this to no avail. To be honest file transfer works perfect from the HTPC to the desktop. From the Desktop to the HTPC I get nothing. Well, at least now I do. It worked fine off and on a couple days ago

Note to self: Don't confess you're a liar, then brag about how fast your desktop is, in the same post...

So I just got my brand new HP laptop (thank you Microsoft for the 40% cash back!). I wonder if SP2 will work on here...

I think I will try it later in the week. There is so much crap on this HP even after uninstalling everything in the control panel that I think a clean install might be nice. Might as well see if SP2 will work before I do that.

No go for me. it installed right up to the end, then err "can not install - reverting back".
And after the "revert", my video was screwed up. Had to reload vista and sp1 from scratch.
BE WARE!!!

If by everyone you mean everyone who doesn't know how to use Google, then yes, everyone is having problems.

Peerguardian 2 works great on Vista x64 so long as you disable driver signature enforcement.

How much was you paid for that worthless remark?

Getting back on topic SP2 is still beta, expect final Vista SP2 next year around April or so.

I'm going to wait for the official version, basically because SP1 is running fine and I don't try beta's unless I know it'll fix an issue I'm having.

Three dollars and fifteen cents.

As long as a brand new copy of Vista Ultimate STILL does not create start menu/desktop/quicklaunch shortcuts even when manually selected by the installer for ANY program I install, thereby forcing me to fucking browse manually to the executable to start any fucking program, IN ADDITION to the fact that there is NO option to make the fucking explorer open like XP did with the my computer layout showing drives rather than opening in the fucking documents and forcing me to click the fuck around a billion times to access another drive (since it won't let me type the drive name unless I use the run prompt) - the I will still refuse to use this $400 piece of shit sitting in the "throw away" bin in my home office.

Nominate that for the run on sentence of the year award or something but it still holds true.

Based on what you've stated, I think the problem is your OS in your body rather than the OS on the computer.

I'm downloading the SP2 beta on my laptop right now. Any recommendations on a good benchmark to run before and after? All I have on it now is everest.

edit: got it installed. The only benches I ran were everest's cache/mem and bench report. SP2 faster across the board!

Thanks but the other really big problem I am having reared it's ugly head again.

I can't download anything. It goes through the motion of downloading but after done there is nothing there.

Edit: Obviously Sweetpea is my wife's laptop.

Sorry for being rudimentary, but...

Do you have enough disk space to store it?

And, do you have a stable Internet connection?

It's 388.3 MB - took me over an hour to download...

OK I have it now by downloading to my laptop with XP and then transferring in to debi's laptop with Vista.

It did the update and said build 6002, then it downloaded 3 more service pack 2 updates and now says Evaluation copy in front of build 6002.

I noticed it said Windows 7 a couple of times during the updating.

Now I'll do some testing on this and see if any of the major problems are fixed such as being able to download directly or open attachments from web mail which debi is pretty pissed off about understandably. It used to work until a couple of months ago.

It's a 2006 Toshiba laptop with 2 gb ram, 80 gb HD with 50% free
DSL connection of 3 meg down.

I'll post on here later today after some paces with it.

Thanks for replying.

Quick update

debi says the Windows Vista (TM) and Evaluation copy build 6002 was never on her desktop before in the lower right hand corner.

She's not happy with that messing up her Christmas background pic now.

I didn't look to see if there was a way to turn that off yet.

I checked the properties in computer settings and it says Service Pack 2. v.113

Now on to more poking around.

Still has the download and attachment problem.

Really bizarre.

I even tried to download in same directory I transferred SP2 from the other computer earlier and nothing happens.

The most bizarre thing I've seen.

Anyone have any ide of what the heck is going on and doing this?

Confirmed. SP2 is on my HP laptop. I don't know why it wouldn't work on the Dell. Oh well.
