Just installed Vista SP2 and it seems, with limited testing and subjective evaluation, that it is a real improvment in speed. It truly "feels" snappy and running a couple of Benchmarks is it is as much as 15% (3dMark 05). It has either "cured" a previous problem with my system or is really just faster. Anyone else tried it yet?

Defrag, and then see if it's even better...my experience with MS is after a SP or even KB security patch installations is that it really frags the HDD.

Let us know, I have avoided Vista peresonally but have less fortunately friends/family.

That was a worthless remark, remember no personal attacks allowed in the forums.

Getting back on topic SP2 is still beta, expect final Vista SP2 next year around April or so.

I'm going to wait for the official version, basically because SP1 is running fine and I don't try beta's unless I know it'll fix an issue I'm having.

Three dollars and fifteen cents.

As long as a brand new copy of Vista Ultimate STILL does not create start menu/desktop/quicklaunch shortcuts even when manually selected by the installer for ANY program I install, thereby forcing me to fucking browse manually to the executable to start any fucking program, IN ADDITION to the fact that there is NO option to make the fucking explorer open like XP did with the my computer layout showing drives rather than opening in the fucking documents and forcing me to click the fuck around a billion times to access another drive (since it won't let me type the drive name unless I use the run prompt) - the I will still refuse to use this $400 piece of shit sitting in the "throw away" bin in my home office.

Nominate that for the run on sentence of the year award or something but it still holds true.

I am amazed but not amused by the number of Vista haters that make a profession of ranting without specific complaints. If you don't want Vista don't buy it. But unless you have tried SP2, which is what this thread is about, your comments here are of little interest to anyone and I make this statement free of charge.

I'm amazed at the number of people that make accusations (see: without specific complaints) without actually verifying that they aren't spouting a bunch of bullshit (see: the post above yours).

If you kept on topic rather then swear virtually on every line and try to be nice to other members here ie "Cardio" that did nothing to you then you would not have a problem right?

Remarks like that well I think rest of the members here know what to make of that.

Now you are acting like a troll and trying to get argument going, well sorry I'm not biting, I said my piece,I'll let the Mods take over from here.

Getting back on topic again,SP2 beta I have read has none to some speed improvements depending on the user in question,I guess we'll have to wait and see with the final version.

Here is a tip for you - you are not a mod. Get a clue and stop pretending you are. I have just as much of a right to vent about my Vistra frustrations as anyone, and the fact that you called that a personal attack is just downright laughable. I genuinely feel bad for you so I'm going to let it just lie there, though sadly you obviously have such a bloated ego that you won't listen to anything said that conflicts with your objectives.

I attacked Vista. If attacking an Operating System is a personal attack, then I'll see you in a month. I really doubt it, though.

Wow, thank you.

There was no need for you to completely derail this Sp2 related thread. Take a week off.

Heh 'WindowSexplorer' (from the details of the above link). Guess my mind's in the gutter today.

Looking forward to SP2! I like Vista more than I once did, SP1 is an undeniable improvement.

Anyone know how to enable per-folder context search in Vista? I use this frequently in XP, and can't find it in Vista.

Example, I'll be in my XP Docs folder, right click a folder, click 'search', and it will ONLY search in that folder, preventing me from getting jillions of hits on commonly named searches.

Fucking ridiculous and worthless fucking post. See, you are not the only fucker that can use fuck a bunch of times in a fucking post.

Edit:

The biggest thing I can see in SP2 that could improve performance is the inclusion of Windows Search 4.0, which is already available on Windows Update. I suggest everyone on Vista download and install WS 4.0.

The user is already on a vacation for his behavior in this thread. I presume you do not want to join him, so please keep this thread on topic.

I don't do beta service packs even though I'm very tempted. I've used Vista since RC1, and I haven't had any problems yet* I'll install the SP when it goes official, but I'm not expecting much one way or the other.

*My one problem is the damned folder views. I wish they'd stay where I left them, but it's just a small annoyance.

Why is it so hard to right click on "Computer" and click explore to see the drives? Why is it so hard to create a shortcut yourself the first time you have to locate the executable?

It is uninstallable so you're not stuck rolling an image back to before the install. That said, its useful but (IMHO) not a must have so waiting isn't going to hurt you much (unless you want to burn BR disks today )

Microsoft, for reasons I still don't understand to date has said 'no' to the TV pack and SP2.

I just don't have a pressing need for it. I'm pretty happy with Vista the way it is. I do want to check out the new Wifi configuration on my laptop, but I haven't been using it much lately. I've been having too much fun playing with my EeePC :^)

SP2b1 seems to have borked my Vista. On boot up it gets to "Updating: Step 3 o' 3" and performs a shut down, then on reboot repeats the updating. So be cautious! I'm going to see what I can do or just download the Vista+SP2 ISO.

Thanks for giving tardface a vacation, bsobel. He definatley needs to go back to n00bf0rumz-r-us.com and keep running his 8-year-old OS that will never be able to use more than 3.5 gb of ram.

Getting back to the original thought, has anyone else tried the update?

If I understand the one comment about " going to the website and downloading who knows what", the SP2 update comes from Windows Update not a private site. As of yesterday anyway, you had to run the file before the SP2 update would be available for download.

I have been using SP2 for about 24 hours without incident.
It is faster on my computer (Evga X58, i7 920@ 3.6, 3GB Vista 32). This may be from replacing some corrupted files from original installation of some other reason. I had been experiencing and occasional IE crash and that has not happened yet either.

The installation automatically makes a restore point and it is uninstallable also. The download was about 300 MB. It will have to be uninstalled before the final release can be installed. Shows "Evaluation Copy.Build 6002 on lower right of desktop. This is the same build # as previous beta in spite of numerous changes. System info shows: SP2, v.133

Is it a sign of the times when even mentioning the word "VISTA" sends some raving to the mental ward?

I will not be trying the SP2 beta however, I am glad to see many people reporting a speed and overall responsiveness increase with it.

Will definitely be upgrading to SP2 once it is final though.

Bit uncalled for. XP still has it's place for many people, and Vista is not without numerous and well-documented problems for many people. Doesn't mean it's right to trash anyone based on any of those facts.

<--- looking forward to Vista SP2. Overall I like Vista, but the Windows Explorer and general file navigation irks me. I still want to know how to hack right-click single-folder searching from inside Vista though. That would make me really happy.
