All beta service packs are evaluations. This one will expire in June 2008. Removing the beta SP or installing the RTM SP1 (which requires removing the beta first) when available will remove the timebomb.

Okay, so I am best off removing this as it really doesn't do crap for my laptop (web surfing, e-mail, etc).

Edit- Un-installed it, figured since it worked fine I am better off without it. The funny thing is that when I removed it, it said the same thing "Evaluation copy Build 6000". It took a few reboots but it's good now. Shows "Windows Vista (TM) Build 6000".

You can get rid of that with the DLL change outlined way back in the thread.

It does take a long time to install - final phase has 3 stages. I will leave it on until time to replace it with the final version. It does load Vista faster on my laptop. I have a backup HDD without it - so it is no big deal one way or the other.

I didn't need to. It returned to normal after another reboot and the notice disappeared. I made it reappear with the registry change just to make sure it was right.

This is pretty crazy though for 4 reboots.

You can remove the watermark by deleting the test root CA certificate out of the trusted root store. I don't know what this will do to SP1 though. I'm not sure why so many people get so worked up about a watermark on beta code. Do people spend a lot of time looking at their desktop?

No info on this yet?
