Vista Ultimate x64 Install Problems

So I just purchased a few new pieces of hardware, and my current build is as follows:

New Stuff:
ASUS P5Q Motherboard
Intel Q9300 2.5 ghz
2x2 Corsair XMS2 DDR 800

Old Stuff:
ATI Radeon HD2900xt
250 GB Seagate SATA
500 GB Seagate SATA
Silverstone DA 750 PSU

That seems to be the relevant info...

Anyway, I'm booting up the installation disc for Vista x64. It goes far enough into the install process for me to see the mouse and the pretty background. Once the disc starts spinning again, however, the mouse freezes for a few seconds, and then the system resets. I never see the "Start Installation" button or whatever it is that starts the wizard.

I also put in a 32-bit Vista disc that I had around to see how far it got into that install process, and it made it to the Start Installation part with no issues. I do not think the problem is the x64 disc, however, as I tried that same disc in my laptop and it had no problems booting on that system.

So does anybody have a suggestion? I could concievably install Vista 32-bit right now, but I really would rather not do that since I've coughed up the price of 4 gigs of system RAM...

This is definitely a temperature or RAM issue...try installing Vista x64 with 2 GB RAM and you can put the other module back after the installation.

Already tried without one of the RAM modules. I would also say it's not likely to be a temperature issue; I went ahead and tried to install the 32-bit version and the whole thing went off without a hitch.

I didn't activate; I'm still intent on installing the 64-bit version on here. Anyone else have any suggestions?

I would try again, with the 2 gb memory, and ensure that the memory is running at the recommended volts , and everything else is your bios is set to stock settings...

also, try flashing to the latest bios , if you haven't already.....

Tried again with 2 gb memory, manually set voltage to 1.9 (that is what is printed on the surface of the modules), everything else is stock.

Flashed bios from version 0506 to 1004.

No change whatsoever. Can anyone else help?

Since I cannot figure out whats the problem, I can only give you the following suggestions that might help.

1. Run installation on a clean drive
2. Make sure EM64T is enabled in your BIOS
3. Unplug USB Devices
4. Load Fail Safe BIOS Defaults

3: The only USB device currently attached is my mouse.
2, 4: I cannot find either of these settings in my BIOS.

I am fairly certain this is some sort of bios configuration issue. Does anybody have any experience with this board?

That isn't the problem I'm having... they are having a failure to detect drives from within the Vista installer. My installer doesn't even get that far before rebooting on me.

Does the Vista Disc come with SP1?...try using the release copy of Vista without SP1.

Thanks, but I've finally figured it out-- in lieu of a failsafe mode, I manually disabled all of the onboard devices that were not absolutely crucial for installation, and the disc loaded just fine at that point. Thanks guys!
