I've been playing with Vista for the past 2 months maybe and I'm not generally impressed over what XP provides. Maybe I'm missing the boat, but I'm wondering what others think that have used both?

At this point, I like Vista over XP. Runs just as smooth for me, plus I feel that there's a lot more security and features that I'll use.

vista no question. its faster then i am, which i cant say about xp. granted you need the hardware, but if you have it then why not utilize it? eventually eeryone will be on vista just like we all have xp now, you can buy your key now or later.... (waiting for the few people to reply "youre so wrong, i have win98 still and it works fine")

If Vista had no (or much looser DRM) I would say Vista by a short nudge. I hate the fact that DX10 is Vista only though.

XP hands down. Neither Microsoft, nor anyone else has any business with what I do or store on my computer, unless they have my permission or a warrant.
It's like inviting Microsoft to your house to have a tea party with you.

XP, since it runs everything I have. As with all my previous OS upgrades, I see no reason to switch to Vista until I want to use a program or something that requires it.

For me XP, but only for now. Costs too much money to upgrade without any real reason to. But then I don't do much on the PC anymore except cruisin the intarweb.

xp...probably because i get much better fps in games and its a lot more smoother. drivers work perfectly too...vista is alright on the other hand - crappy nvidia drivers, kinda sluggish compared to xp, etc.

probably because my 6600GT, intel p4 2.4C @ 2.95Ghz, and ide hard drive are slowing it down...

what are you doing on your pc thats illegal and/or embarrassing? theres no way to live off the grid anymore, the best thing you can do is get lost inside of it. protection and privacy is in the numbers man...

Vista is smoother and faster. XP has a better GUI (not designed for idiots). With my current system, Vista probably loses that performance edge so XP for now.

Its not worth the money to upgrade for me. I will look into it once I get a DX10 vid card and want some of those games.
Isn't gaming performace better on XP right now anyways?

If I was solely cruising the Inet and emailing I would do an Ubuntu system.

Vista. Reasons why:
* Better security
* Much better networking
* Better explorer interface (at least i like it)
* Voice recognition is almost sci-fi level now (i'm seriously so amazed by it, but hear so little of it from others).
* FASTER. Yes, it's actually FASTER than XP. And i only have a Dell laptop with 2Ghz PM CPU, 2gig ram, and 6800Go Ultra.
* Aero and the GUI (including alt-tabbing, ctr-tabbing, etc... too bad it didn't have cube/multiple desktop functions like linux glx)

Reasons why XP is better atm:
* drivers (my Dell 1350 Wireless isn't working)
* software support of course.

But i'm migrating to Vista asap. Still on the fence about x64 or 32bit for my HTPC though... 32bit because most XP drivers actually work fine in Vista, but x64 for the possibility of better 64 bit performance when more software comes out for it.

there is nothing you cant do in xp you cant do in vista. why do you think running vista makes it so MS has any idea about whats on your pc?

My basic rule is not to adopt ANY new Microsoft OS until it's been out at least a year unless someone is going to pay me to use it. Two years is better.

Eventually, everyone will make the switch to Vista, but for now, Vista needs some more polish before I can switch to it. And its not just Vista, but plenty of hardware needing updated drivers.
