I played the 360 demo of this at Best Buy sometime last year, I thought it was cute and interesting, but I didn't get enough time to play to really understand the game so my impression was "hummmm" I had no idea a PC port was in the works, I wanted a new game, had played GOW at a friends and it seemed kind of blah (didn't have much time with it though...) want COD 4 but I can wait till the price drops. SOF III isn't out till next week. I was looking at all the FPS's, and was thinking to myself I want to play something totally different.
$40 bucks isn't bad, I had read the 360 reviews and they all seemed to really like the game. So I decided to pick it up and give it a whirl, man oh man I really like the game.
for all the PC people or even Console people who don't know about the game I suggest you Google some reviews. Basically you have a farm, and try to make it appealing to Pinata animals. The reviewers seem to liken it to a cross between The Sims & Animal Crossing. I never played either but watched GF play both extensively. The graphics are top notch, very colorful with really cool animations for all the animals. They're very cartoonish and fit perfectly for the game. Sound is cartoony also, good music and funny sound effects. Very different from the FPS's I'm used to playing.
It has micro management going on, which is to be expected in a game like this, but it's not over done, keep the plants watered, make sure animals don't eat other animals you don't want them to. Help animals Romance so they can have babies. Stray baddies will wander on your farm and eat your animals and fruits, you can whack them with a stick and kill them. I sat and watched my Snake Pinata eat my Mouse Pinata. Only been playing today so I still have a long way to go, but I've already seem a dozen or so different animals. I find it very cool and relaxing to watch them scamper around, sleep, eat and just interact. The Fox saw some sort of Bat looking creature and howled and ran away.
It's Windows Live so you need an account to save anything, the accounts are free, not sure about On-Line, but the local Silver account doesn't cost. Not sure if this game has Multiplayer haven't dug in to it enough.
This game will get lost in the shuffle of new releases, doesn't help I haven't seen much about it even coming out. But it targets a much different crowd than a Crisys or SOF III. I love shooters, so far I'm loving this game though. A lot of people will be turned off by the kid like quality, but it's worth giving a chance, it seems pretty challenging and engaging. I wouldn't say it's hard, but you do have to stay on top of things so animals don't die and you can attract new breeds. The reviews I've read said it's good for about 30 hours of play, last game I played was Stranglehold which was 7-8 so this is a huge improvement. I don't know how much fun it wil be to me after a few more days of play. But as of right now I'm enjoying it much more than I ever expected. It is a port but the controls are simple, you don't even use the keyboard. I couldn't tell it was a port at all, a basic point and click game.
I recommend it for anyone with children, I don't see how any kid could not fall in love with it. And for me at least it definitely brought out my inner child.
8.5/10
