ViVo on GF4 card quality?

Hi, Ive been considering one of the GeForce 4 4400 or 4600 cards with Video In/Out for my next upgrade from my MSI GeForce2 Pro card. Was looking at MSI's 4600 with ViVo. Anyway, i was wondering what anyone knows about the quality of the ViVo features on the card. The MSI card has a Phillips encoder and I wonder if all the cards use the same hardware for the video in. Im looking to move my home video's to VCD or SVCD. Anyway, any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

PS: I saw in the third edition of Mays Video Card Price Guide that you listed a PNY GeForce4 4600 OEM card at NewEgg for 178.00 US and was wondering if anyone saw it there? Is that a real price that they had? I couldnt find it and could hardly believe it. If it was real, will it maybe come back when they get more stock in? Thanks again.

Mmm... I had heard that almost all of the nVidia based cards use the Philips video encoder or whatever. nVidia doesn't make their own from what I'd heard hope this helps.

Thanks, but does anyone know about the quality of the video capture features of the GF4 based vivo cards? I take it that the Phillips encoder found on alot of them is not the same as the "Nvidia Personal Cinema" feature on some GF2 and GF3 based cards? Thanks again.

I started doing capture with mine off a dying 8mm camcorder. It seemed to work quite well, but the camcorder died shortly after I started I have one that I am borrowing soon to xfer all my 8mm tapes to VCD. This is not my area of expertise, but it looked Ok to me.

I've tested the video in on my MSI GF4 Ti4400 with an 8mm camcorder as well and a gamecube with pretty good results even just using the composite. My monitor isn't so hot so I don't prefer to use my monitor to play the consoles...but I can.

I will try to hook a receiver/dvd/something or my gamecube (with the expensive connector) tonight or tomorrow if your knowing will help you better decide...mine came with the more recent all-in-one piece connector thing.

I'm learning how to make VCD's. I've been capturing off an 8mm camcorder using VirtualDub for the last hour. Seems to work pretty well. Dont know about the VO part. Haven't used it.

onelin0: What program do you use to play consoles on your monitor? I can't seem to find a good program that will allow full screen.
