I have to agree the Pany is a better set. The real question can you get one at BB without camping over night. Plus you get the Costco warranty.

Going to Cosco to return my 36 Toshiba non-HD tv I bought 4 years ago for the VP42HDTV. Was shocked to find out that you can return anything at Cosco (except computers) any time for a full refund as long as you have the receipt. Just went with a co-worker to return a 3 year old TV and they handed him a little over 2,000 cash with no questions asked. Life time warrenty on a plasma from Cosco is Super Hot for me.

If you dont want to wait in line on BF...

I just picked up a TH-42PX60U from Sears for $1249 plus tax (Only 3.5% at the Sears in New Brunswick, NJ)

Their price was $1799 but I price matched to CC (1299) and they honored it without a problem.

Total including tax $1293

Glad I don't have to decide!
The VP42HDTV does have a tuner...

Tuner: Integrated NTSC/ATSC/QAM HDTV Tuner

While I agree that the Panny has a better established brand and quality, I'm still going to pick up the Vizio. The set looks good enough for me and the return policy is stellar.

AFAIK, Costco doesn't do price matching....

I just got back from Costco. The GV42LHDTV blows the VP42HDTV away. The color on the VP42HDTV looked dull, cloudy and lifeless. The color on the GV42LHDTV looked crips and possibly even a little oversaturated. At least with Costco, you can take it back if you don't like it.

I thought the GV42L looked "better" than the VP42 as well, but you can't really know for sure until you bring it home or spend a considerable amount of time at the store tweaking the display with a reliable source of HD content. The Costco I went to had all of the Vizio's except for the 50" hooked up to their "HD Sample" playback, whereas the 50" was connected to a DVD playing Cars.

Still, the VP42 looked good and the GV42L doesn't have an HDTV tuner... and IIRC, the GV42L also only has one HDMI input.

That's sad.

Visio spec for GV42L has a HDTV Tuner and 2 HDMI input. But, no OTA HDTV tuner.

edit: tuner

Glad I went to Costco. Much hotter deal IMO for the Vizio VP42 in that I only had to stand out in the cold for a couple hours to be the 5th person in line... as opposed to Best Buy and Circuit City where reportedly people had been camped out since 2AM or earlier (heard on the radio that some BB in the midwest had a guy in line there at 8PM Thanksgiving night...sheesh).

Now off I go to AVS forum to figure out why, even though my 360 can display a 1080p/60 image (it downscales it) via component, the same device plays back DVDs at 480p/60 and my DVD player (using component) displays at 480i/60.

They started camping here before noon on Thanksgiving day.

Although I try not to be self-righteous about what people do with their Costco membership (because they paid for it); nonetheless, as more people taking advantage of this policy just because they can will eventually cause Costco either go out of business or revoke this policy.

They might already be changing this. The guy behind me in the line on Friday was a Costco employee at another store (had to shop at that one and wait in line to be "fair" to the customers... neat!) and he mentioned something about "coming back in 364 days" ... so maybe Costco is changing its "lifetime of the product" policy to an exchange/refund within 1 year. I agree that this can get abused.
