interesting. im not as shy to new brands as i used to be. i remember acer cdrw drives that made me swear i would never buy anything acer again... but a decade+ later and im typing on an aspire win7 laptop and im very surprised how nice it is.

vizio makes great tv's too. no doubt about it anymore either. theyre not the best, but they are usually the best value.

Looks nice. Reminds me of a Macbook air, zenbook, and ultrabooks.

Hopefully the build will be as good as well.

I wonder what there warranty will be.

It's a good time to come out because next month is back to school sales and every student is looking for a good deal.

It comes with intel and an SSD drive sounds like a good buy.

More competition mean that the price may go down

They should make one with a 640m + quad Ivy like everyone else.
650m would be better...

The 15 inchers appear to all be IPS. The 14s are not. The base 15" is $949 - seems like a super competitive price for a 1920x1080 IPS panel ultrabook.

Yeah it is. I was pretty set on waiting for the Asus Transformer Books, but that'll probably be quite pricey. There's also not a lot of info so I don't know how long I'll be waiting (at least past the Win 8 release). I may be just as happy (and might spend as much) if I went with the Vizio and an Asus TF300.

what a tour de force. not one model in particular but this entire lineup is a stunning first entry.

Are they using the same platform as an ultrabook? i see that it has an ssd for boot ups? The major downside would be it doesn't have a dvd rom.

Yeah, it seems they're using a "slimmer" profile (so no optical drive) but not quite as thin and light as the ultra books. Not really a deal breaker for me these days though I could see it being for some. And only the top model has the SSD.

I'm quite torn between the two. I have a nice gaming PC so I don't really NEED the benefit of dedicated graphics in most situations, but having that extra power could be quite useful. On the other hand thin & lights really are thin and light which I really like.

a friend returned the thin and light vizio because of many issues... bad trackpad... mediocre screen

That's odd. Where did he get it? They are only taking pre-orders at present.

I have a hard time believing that a mediocre screen was an issue seeing the crap that passes for LCD screens in most laptops these days.

Anyone have any idea when these will be released? I'm quite looking forward to the 15" notebook, but they're apparently being extremely tight lipped on the release date.

Amazon seems to carry a few. But in general, it looks like they are having supply problems.

Samsclub.com has some Think + Lights, although I forgot if they are in stock. Walmart.com is going to have the whole range at some point, but right now its all out of stock. If you want one you may want to call your local Sams Club or Local Walmart.

I played a tad with the $899 14" i3 they had at walmart. The screen is very nice. It seems like a well built and designed machine. That looks like it's the only model they had though, which is a bummer as I'd rather have the larger screen. I'll probably spring for the higher end model too. I'm not really all that interested in the processor upgrade, but the 256gig SSD would be nice.
