On a limited budget for a new TV. I would like the biggest TV I can get, found the Vizio E70-E3 for $1148.00. Started doing some research, found the Vizio P series, that seems to be WAY better quality than the E series, but also way more expensive. The Vizio P65-C1 goes for $1598.00, which is a little more than I can afford, but I'll make it work somehow...

Question is, do I go with the bigger screen (E70-E3 is 70 inches) for less money, or the smaller screen (P65-C1) for more money. It's only 5 inches (heh, that's what she said...) but from what I've read, the P series is leaps and bounds better quality than the E series. Going today to the only store I know of that has both, Sam's Club, but it is an hour drive with a bad back, so I hope it's worth it. I'm guessing that I won't be able to see the difference in quality from one to the other, will post back here when I get back in case anyone else is having a similar problem. Any thoughts from people who know more than me about these things would be most appreciated.

Found this review page showing a lot of differences between the models, http://www.smartreview.com/vizio-4k-tv-uhd-model-lineup-comparison-reviews, with difference like:

E series Contrast: 5,000,000 to 1
P series contrast: 50,000,000 to 1

E series: 16 Dimming Zones
P series: 128 Dimming Zones

E series Clear Action: 180
P series Clear Action: 960

E series Native 60Hz
P series Native 120Hz

I'm not sure what most of this even means, but the P series seems to be WAY better quality going by these numbers. Heading out, will post again later.

that p model is not the current year.
also, i dont think either has a tuner built in, if you need that

do they have built in apps, or do you have to use the tablet thingy and cast?

Well, best laid plans...

Got to Sam's, they had the E model, but not the P model. They did have an 80" P model for over $3k that looked incredible, but way out of my price range. Then my wife found a 65" "M" model, was $1248.00, marked down to $1089.00. Turned out it was their last one, and the manager offered me the floor model for 10% off, which brought it down under $1000. Saved about $250, and got a better model than the E model. Hadn't done a lot of research on the M models, but I know they are better than the E's, not as good as the P's. I'm happy with it, would have liked the extra 5 inches, but I have a pretty small living room, so I guess 65" is big enough.

This year's P is last year's P with revised firmware (some built-in apps) and a remote instead of a tablet.

got it. so the one listed in the op would have most likely had the tablet and not the remote

Own D series 2016 Vizio. Love it, except for the viewing angles. Love the quality and everything else otherwise. After calibration:

Dimming Zones and Clear Action I turned off so forget it. As for 60 vs 120 hz. It's marketing. I have yet to see a TV accept anything higher than 60hz. If it really does do 120hz at the screen (a true 120 frames), then it's interpolating (making up) frames off 24,30,60hz which you want OFF. So it cancels that as a feature to 'buy'.

If it's greater than 65", it HAS to be 4k. However, it's pretty hard to find a non 4K TV these days in those sizes.

I think you got the best deal.

In my experience, unless the TV/picture is absolute garbage, there is no substitution for size when it comes to TV enjoyment. If you are on this forum asking if the picture quality is really that much better moving from an E to a P then it probably wouldn't be worth the investment for you unless bragging rights are important (and yes, that is a legitimate reason). 60Hz vs. 120Hz is a marketing scam

You can always add features via Roku, FireTV, AppleTV, MiBox, etc. but you can't make the screen bigger for $100.
