I live and die by MPC. No bloat and it plays absolutely everything.

VLC is ugly and it crashes for me. No comparison here. Media Player Classic hands down. MPC can even do video effects with pixel shaders.

VLC has been crashing on me lately, might have to give MPC a try... where can I get it from and are there codecs that need to be loaded?>

That depends what you want to watch. Of course you'll need codecs, VLC is not the way I prefer because they install a million codecs for you, and I'd rather control what codecs get installed.

MPC is bloat free, but in return you must install your own codecs (better IMO).

Name what you watch and I'll link you to all the codecs you need.

Does VLC do screen captures ? Cause that's built-into MPC (save image as)... I love that feature.

MPC is great for every day use, but i miss some Xvid-Codecs. Plus VLC plays videos in slowmotion. Shift+F6 if i remember correct.

Use the --nooverlay command line option.

MPC is probably crashing because of codecs. It's nice when you have all the right codecs and filters installed. VLC is nice when you don't. I'm not fond of VLC's UI, or default hotkeys. Both have thier own place on my PC though.
